Grrr just typed this out and it got deleted before i could post, lets try again:

I don't know what im doing wrong but i guess it must be my age or location, or both!

Bascially i was looking to help someone out with their horses. I advertised several times in several different places but had no reply. I said i was happy to help out with a companion horse and riding was not necessary, i was looking for friendship and ponies to cuddle, i was happy to walk out ponies if the other person wanted to ride, i was happy to help with chores, grooming, feeding etc, provide some company for the rider and animals alike, i have worked at a riding school before, did leading, grooming etc, and used to get up a good canter myself (i think a few of you know my riding school phobia but if you dont feel free to PM). Although i drive i haven't passed my test yet and so can't travel far into surrey, but would be willing to travel on london public, and a good distance for the right place. It seems no one wants the help, or they just want me to get up early and muckout and disappear again.

Am i looking for a fantasy?

hmm... we advertised for ages for something like what you sound like... nothing.... no one wanted to do it... didnt even involve mucking out as they are out 24/7.... just someone to ride/walk them out put them on the walker and hay them.... groom them just generally look after them as dad works and mum doesnt like doing it... we gave up and now mum has to do it!!
i dont think your looking for fantasy... just the wrong place maybe!!

I'll come live in the cotwolds then

if someone will teach me ill do it yknow

You could contact one of the city farms and see if they need help. Otherwise work out where you can get to easily and advertise at yards and in tack shops in those areas.

Thanks Peter, i hadnt heard of Wormwood, but i cant get to the RDA down my way and when i asked previously they didnt have any vacancies for the evnings i could do, i have looked up wormwood, but it will take me 3 hours to get across london

Thanks Divasmum, i did work experience at my local city farm but it was another case of the riding school incide, they all seem to be one way round here, also they give priority to kids from surrounding estates as its a community central and im technically from a different borough, i have asked people i know at 'local' (about 1hr 1/2 away) yards to ask around if they need anyone, but so far all ive found is people looking for adult sharers who will pay a couple of hundred a month plus shoeing

Thanks Mozarts mum, it just seems to be the wrong place

i dont like london much

Keep looking. Are there any livery yard near you?

Go ask the YO if you can help out to gain experience.

That way you'll get to know liveries and can help them if required although if the yard owner charges for services then they won't be happy if your offering for free.

Someone will want your help I'm sure.

Is there no rescue centres near you at all

If you lived near me you could come and cuddle, groom and ride JB

Thanks flower lady, haha,, im in an akward bit of london, there are a few liveries around, but as above they dont seem interested/are too far to go/ arent very friendly/ are adults only etc, i dont think we even have a pony club haha, im sure theres one somewhere i hadnt really considered it, im hoping to go to uni in september. I would love it if there was a rescue local but i cant find anything, have asked round shelters and stuff but most are small animals
I would love to come cuddle/groom/ride JB hehe but again wrong area haha!

Thanks duckling, have PMed you

Can you make it to Woldingham station, trains from Victoria? I'm at a yard 2 mins walk from there and I'll be needing a bit of help over the summer cos I'm pregnant. You'd be welcome to ride my old girl if you have strong arms!! PM me if you're interested.

Cant imagine you can easily get to Essex--both Hopefield and Remus horse sanctuaries have lots of horses and ponies, Remus definitely has regular volunteers and specialises in care of the elderly horse

Haha Laniep i was in galway last summer and fell in love with the connies at the national park, but have to say dont think i cant afford another holiday in ireland very soon!

Thanks cuffe- i can't actually get to essex, although id love to help at a sanctuary, but thanks for the tips, i will look them up if i am ever in the area

I've had a few offers now, all pending hehe, can't believe i didnt post here before haha, so thanks everyone for your help, wish there were more of you round here haha
