For those of you who read my post about my horse Indie..
http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3070819/an/0/page/1/gonew/1#UNREAD
Well today I went up to take her for a small walk in-hand and then give her her morning bute, as I was putting her back in her invalid field I noticed the other liveries pony rolling (there are only 2 of us liveries at my yard and the YO), so I go and see if shes OK, her field mate (other livery has 2 an endurance horse and an ex-endurance pony) goes and makes her get up by biting her, but then she goes over and rolls in the field shelter-alarm bells start ringing so I go over and check her out-pony in obvious distress sweating panting, classic colic symptoms so ring owner and get her to come to yard, within a minute syptoms seem to be more accute so ring owner again tell her to HURRY UP, and shall I ring vet for her, which I did. Between the two of us we get her out of field down to the paddock infront of the yard while we wait for vet, friend pulled the pony I pushed. Pony keeps dropping and thrashing, vet turns up diagnosis colic and sedates and give loads of drugs etc, after sedative wears off she is briskly walked and seems like shes going to be fine so vet prepares to leave, then she drops again and starts to get in a state, que more painkillers and dope. The poor thing was still in obvious pain after being doped up to the eye balls so the decision was made to have her PTS, she was 27yrs old and the vet felt even though there was nothing really bad going on inside her gut without operating he did not not exactly what was wrong, and her owner has always been adamant if she had to have an op she would rather have her pts. Poor little pony was an amazing little thing, really active recently teaching owners children to ride, winning showjumping comps and being a nanny to Indie out hacking. My vet has spend most of his w/e up at our yard and has been amazing. If someone could send me the rainbow bridge poem that would be great as I'd like to give it to the owner.

Oh bless you all what a horrid weekend - my thoughts go out to all involved. I hope you all find comfort knowing that you helped her and the suffering was short lived. Big hugs. I hope Indie is ok? xx

Thank you all so much, I never seen real proper colic before, it really was awful I can't imagine what it must be like for a big horse, at least we could use our strengh to help get her up and try and prop her up-no chance with a huge horse!

My sympathy to you and your friend. The same happened to me about 2 months ago (my 26yo welsh cob) and my vet told me that no-one, even a referral vet hospital would operate on a horse of that age.
Hugs

Fiona
