My next door neighbours daughter has severe epilepsy and although mostly controlled she still has blank moments. She rides a lot and has a fab horse.

Anyway yesterday i witnessed what a fab horse she is, her daughter was competing at a local show they were cantering round when suddenly the daughters face went completely blank and reins dropped and she slumped onto horses neck, we knew instantly she was having a fit ( she blacks out)! The fab horse came instantly back from canter to trot then into a walk keeping her head up and to the left at all times ( as if to keep the rider on) before heading straight to the girls mum and stopping. Then once the her mum got her down the mare kept blowing in her face!

Apparently this has happened a few times in last few eeks due to a change in her meds and the horse has stopped and stood patiently every time for her rider to come round, doesnt eat or anything!

What a fantastic horse!

my partner has epilepsy so is something close to my heart and a real insperation that she doesnt let her disabilty change her life :)

What a nice story. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to get on if I was having incidents like this, but it's wonderful to have a horse that really looks out for their rider. Give her an extra scratch from me.

One of the horses at my yard was caterwauling because he was in on his own, I went to see if he was OK and he chucked his head up and split my lip. Being a brave ole soldier, I went to my lad to ride and whispered 'be a good boy for me, I've hurt my lip, there's a lad'. And he promptly bronked and I landed in a puddle on the floor. Talk about kicking you when you're down. Hope I can find one like this mare next time!

Ha ha SadKen that made me chuckle!!

OP that is such a lovely story, hope at least one of my horses would look after me like that if anything was to happen. Sounds like a one in a million

lol SadKen myine would probably do the same and more than likely stand on me on his hunt for grass hehe!

However saying that i have noticed that all the horses i have had whilst being with my partner are different around him, my current lad is a tad bolshy at times yet is foot perfect for my other half and very patient around him, i wonder if they sense his disabilty?

This mare definately had extra carrots on sunday:) Lisa (the lady with the epilepsy) is so brave she is determined that it will never affect her love for horses and riding :) she is a brilliant horse woman bless her x
