As title really.

My horse is a welsh D (a light sporty one) and weatherbeetas fit her really well, so much so that her entire wardrobe is WB!
Was thinking of buying derby houses heavyweight combo.
So...
Are they long lasting?
How do they fit? Is it similar to WB rugs?

Thanks just seeing if I should go cheaper for heavy weight as she'll only use it a few times a year or pay the extra £50 and stick to my old trusty WB!

Thanks!

Quite like them for my heavyweight cob, they fit well but the lining can sometimes be very thin and seems to disintegrate a bit after a while. Don't know about fit compared to WB as I've never had a WB. The outer though is usually very tough and I've never had a problem with leaking, ripping etc. On the whole I found them to be very good for the money. :)
Edited to say competitiondive is right about the clips, had forgotten about that!

I would only buy the 1200 denier ones. I have quite a few of them and really like them. I agree about the clips though. I bought some replacement clips off ebay. I think the 1200 denier ones are very well made. Mine have lasted very well. One important point though, is that they come up small. My 6'3" horses are wearing 6' 6" DH rugs. Also, I only ever buy them when they are half price or two for one.

I have a couple and although they aren't brilliant they aren't any worse than WBs and they cost a third of the money. I don't like WB rugs very much and I'd rather have DH ones. The 1200 denier ones last fine and I've not paid more than forty quid for one yet so don't care if it only lasts two years!!

When they first came out a few years ago they were decent rugs. Nowadays I'd say they were okay if you're horse is good with rugs but the buckles are a bit weak. The clips will break or I've found that the whole buckle attachment just comes away from the rug.

My two have them for heavyweight turnouts, but only actually wear them for about two months a year, if that. They have had them for over four years now.

They are good deep rugs, fit my two big chested, mw ISHs well, but the buckles and catches are really cheap and nasty compared to other rugs.

I also bought a summer turnout for one of the ponies, and it wasn't half as good as the Shires ones I already had.

Conclussion - ok if found v cheap in the sales or as a spare, but there are many similar priced rugs that are better really - shires and wb being the two that spring to my mind.

That's weird Honey because I have two Shires rugs and they are awful. Both leak like sieves. My DH ones don't.

I really think that it is almost pot luck with ALL rugs whether you get a good one or a bad one. Even Rambo and PE these days which are meant to be some of the best and yet I see the odd thread about these being rubbish too.

Maybe QC is just not what it was as what you get seems to be completely haphazard

Thanks for all replies :)
The heavy weight ones are on the website for £40, will prob get one to last me this year then get a WB for next with the Derby as a spare.

Horse is pretty good with rugs and I can't get too upset if its only £40....just a bit worried about the size of the neck bit, hopefully it won't be too tight on her.
