What are Fal rugs' sizes like? (especially compared to Rambos/Rhinos)

As per the title, please :)

I am just wondering if they tend to come up a little large or small? Or completely average! :p

Thanks in advance :)

I always consider Fal to be true to size - but then I would only put my horses in Fal out of choice if I could get them. My 17'2 takes a 6ft 9 FAL - a 7ft Rambo wug pluss and a 7ft 3 weatherbeater. The reason - the fal is far more generous across the chest. The diagonal fastenings of the Rambo make it too tight across his shoulders so I have to go bigger and the weatherbeeter is just the worng shape with the darts in the chest. he also takes a 6ft 9 in a Bucas. so i am inclined to believe that Far are accurate. My 17'2 is not broad either - he is a DWBxTB.
My 16hh TB is in a 6'3 Fal, as is my 15'3 cob and my 16'2 DWBxTB youngster. All would need different sixes in Weatherbeeta and Rambo rugs. Non of them suit WB rugs as the gussets are in the wrong place and they just rub on their chests. The youngster is find in the Rambo as he has no width to his shoulders yet. The cob cannot wear either as they are just wrong. And everything rubs the TB except his Fal rugs.

Generous. My horse is a 6'6 in FAL but can get away with a 6'9 in Rambo. I think its the necks in the FAL, they seem bigger. I find they pull back on my boy which suprises me as he is a big deep chested MW.

Very helpful replies, thank you :)

I have nothing but rhinos and rambos at the mo, which I love (especially the rambos), but I do think you need to ere on the larger size with them. The horse that I'm shopping for has a LW rhino in a 6'3 which is just a touch smallish and a HW rhino plus in a 6'6 which has a touch of room, so I was wondering if a 6'3 Fal would fit her. It sound like it would - thank you both v much :)

IME, I find it impossible to say...

Strangely, I've got a cooler in 6'3 which is tiny and doesn't even cover my horses arse. I've also got a stable rug in 6'3 and it's massive... Not very helpful I know... Maybe there was a fault with the cooler, or the wrong label was sown in!!!

I have had a Ramgo Wug and a Fal (I think it was a Bulldog) with a half neck, both 6' and am sure the Fal was larger. I think it was a true 6'.

I have a 10 year old purple one with green binding (could it be a Cavallier?), made in England that has just gone on and on and seems to be the only rug that fits my chunky Connie x Welsh without rubbing/strangling him.

i'd say large too. my boy takes 5 3 in weatherbeeta and 5 6 in jhl. i got him a 5 6 fal pro and really could get away with smaller. i've had to tie a knot in the surcingles and fillet string to make them fit. and it slides back on him, rubbing his shoulders slightly. apart from that, good quality rug.

Normally generous. However, I brought two of their brilliant 40g rugs from a lady on EBay. The 5'9" is a bit large on my 14.1hh pony, the 5'3" is a bit snug and doesn't really come far enough down his belly. I don't normally have a problem with them though, and would normally say they come up a bit generously sized.
Great rugs though, never leak or rub.

Agree with the others and say they come up large.

I have a couple of Fals, had them ages and they are 6'6". No rubs and lots of room,

Forgot to say I bought the cheeper Cheiftan sp?? and it didnt fit him, it was too small!! I think the FAL from the good old days were fantastic, well made and as said above made in England. Maybe I got a dodgy one?

true to size or slightly large, i'd say only an inch or two longer maybe. good luck finding FAL at the moment though, apparently they've been taken over and stockists can't get new stock at present - i set out to buy a new ultra-heavyweight (450g or so) just before Christmas and had real problems finding 1.
well worth the money, excellent rugs that last for well over a decade in my experience...
