What Are My Options?

I *think* I've seen your advert. I appreciate you're in an awful situation but she's ideal for a dodgy dealer.
Is she a sane and sensible hack? If so I'd ask around and see if someone would loan her as that. From your advert and this thread she sounds more suited for that than a companion.

Companions are ten a penny. I can get one free any day of the week. If I want a companion I also need it to be easy to deal with and non clingy. I’m horrified you have gone to the effort to get this mare back only to pass her on again.

If she is genuinely healthy and has a good job in her please just loan and be prepared to put some effort in to evaluating loaner and also checking in on her.

I think I have found the advert too - the 'As' advert?

Looking at that photo, she looks very straightened through the hocks and with dropped fetlocks - does she have DSLD? Bilaterally, it can be quite difficult to see pain, but it is a very painful and only degenerative condition.

If people around you are making you feel guilty for considering PTS, then the DSLD would be reason in itself to strongly consider that in my opinion, and I'm sad that anyone is making you feel guilty for considering it on that basis.

OP has said on another thread her hocks 'give her grief'.

I haven't seen the ad as wouldn't know how to search for it but I am so confused as to why the horse and come back into your care if you cannot afford nor want her?

Personally, I would pts and reconsider the others as you dont sound in a great financial position to have horses at this time.

Hi, I am now advertising her as a companion as I definitely can’t afford for her to be at retirement livery. I’m struggling with paying for them now with everything else that has mounted up. I’ll see if anyone wants her. Although I’ve probably priced her too high now. I don’t want her to end up at a dealer, again.
Ok, well it sounds like you made a bit of a miscalculation having her back....it happens, but it isn't the horse's fault. It would seem far kinder to have her PTS now and save her any more distress.

I'm not sure anyone will pay you for her as a companion, and she doesn't sound like she would be happy doing the standard job of a companion (since she doesn't seem to much like being left on her own).

You made a mistake, with the best of intentions, but still a mistake. But passing her on again to an uncertain fate would be making another mistake.

Wow! I am no vet but that is some poor conformation!

From that photo, that is far more likely to be DSLD, a painful and degenerative condition, than poor conformation. I would have no hesitation in putting that mare to sleep and I would rain coals of fire on anyone who passed her on in that condition. I'm sorry if that offends.

I agree. That post legged appearance is PSD and often due to repetitive strain which is degenerative in nature.

Studies have shown that a hock angle of 165 degrees or higher is associated with an increased incidence of PSD and that mare has a very straight hock angle.

The way the fetlock drops is indicative of DSLD.

So sorry OP X

You are trying to sell her as a companion?
Just trying to avoid her being pts. She’s perfectly rideable, behaved beautifully on a ride and lead (she was lead) last weekend, other than being a stroppy mare when we turned for home. I just want another home, someone who can afford her bills.

Please DO NOT sell this horse as a companion. Please. Loan if you must but be prepared for it to go horribly wrong. But do not sell her. If you do you have lost control of what happens to her. Leo was on loan, and I got him back after a hell of a fight and effectively taking him when he was left unattended. If hed been sold I could have done nothing. His story is on here somewhere and all over Facebook. Hed been sold on, starved and probably beaten, ended up in a dodgy rescue that sold him on and was being ridden emaciated and lame. It broke my heart when I saw what they were doing to him. If I hadn't of been able to get him back it would have broken me.

I got him back, got him sorted and sound and he went on loan to another friend. Got sold on AGAIN, but this time I was keeping a much closer eye and put a stop to that. Im a mature student so permanatley skint the few grand he sold for would have been no end of help to me, doesn't matter. Hes worth more than that to me to keep him safe.

Hes on loan again now. Hes in his final home. If they cant keep him for any reason he will be quietly PTS. I would never ever ever let him be sold.

If you have taken this mare back only to sell her on as a companion you've done her a huge disservice. Please do not do it.
No I didn’t, I’ve had two massive bills come in and I can’t afford three. Simples. Hay, feed (she needs it atm), vaccs, feet, teeth, I can’t do it.

And livery of course.

I’m also looking at options, which I’m clearly running out of now.

Read the your whole thread twice OP as was really confusing and misleading.

Really can empathize with you on the money front, things come out of nowhere and your drowning, fast! Been there.

On the other, being straight with you. This is shocking to read the mares situation, still being ridden with clear DSLD, up for sale as a companion too when you cannot get her to settle. It's worrying that your putting quick cash over the mare (& potentially someone elses) life. Understand your situation but this is just not right. PTS is the kindest thing you could do for her. Misdirected energy on to her old OWNER, is not the one either.

Maybe try getting down to 1 horse for now (if any at all) it's shit, I know but right now you can't do it all.
