Hi all, I'm looking for some inspiration... my mum wasn't able to come over to badminton this year but said she would go to burghley instead, so I thought it would be a great birthday present for her if I booked the trip and went with her.. selfless to the core! ;)

Anyway it turns out that burghley is clashing with something else for her so it's a no go.

Can anyone give me some inspiration on where else would be good to visit? Pau and lumuhlen are also out as they clash with other things.:(

Oh and her birthday is this weekend so I need to get something booked pronto.

Whereabouts in the country would you like to go?

How big do you want it?

Osberton is a good one, as is Chatsworth and Belton (which have gone now!)

I don't mind really, anywhere that isn't too difficult to get to, but we can always hire a car. I was thinking about blenheim as well?

Oh and ideally something running a cci***. Don't think we're going to be able to get to any of the remaining four stars. Or if anyone can recommend any really good shows to visit anywhere else in Europe? Somewhere nice for a trip away.

Bramham is only a couple of weeks away? Generally always sunny, loads of tradestands, BSJA in one ring, PC mounted games & SJ in another :)

Downside to Osberton was the weather last year!

Ooh, hadn't thought of braham, but it will prob be too soon after tatts. Just saw that Blair clashes with a home international here too. God, this is complicated. Sigh...

Barbury - Its amazing. Best people competing, wonderful viewing xc and Wiltshire County Show on same site. Best of all you get to watch everything in one day. For me no event even comes close!

Go to Pau CCI**** - the weather is usually good at that time of year, the town is beautiful as are the mountains and the food/wine is grade A1. If you fly Ryanair to Pau, the event is about 5 minutes drive from the airport.

Ooh lec, I think we might have a winner! Just had a look at the dates and it's a bonus to have the county show as well. Thanks so much. Kit279 we would have loved pau but unfortunately that also clashes with something for us.:(

You could try Hopetoun International near Edinburgh. It's organised by Stuart and Anna Buntine who run Belton International and Osberton International so it's bound to be glamorous. The same weekend sees the first Event in over 50 years at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire. That is being run by the Lochores at Musketeer Event Management so will also be a very well organised event with a spectacular backdrop. They are both on 30th/31st July. I am volunteering at Cholmondeley.

another for Bleheim. In size of fences/names/scenery etc it is close to Badminton but the crowds are far smaller so you can actually walk straight up to an XC and see a rider jump it rather than waiting for about 5 riders to go past till you get to front!

Got some good tradestands and good supporting features such as eventers high jump comp (absolutely superb and amazingly funny last year and watched in preference to the CIC*** showjumping! Add in it has a CIC and CCI*** classes so both sat and sun you have both XC and SJ running on both days.

Ooh sorry for the delay.

If you are still considering Blair, it's probably a long way distance wise right up in the Higlands but incredibly easy to find (not far off the A9). We stayed in a cottage for a week and got camping at the event for the weekend and made a holiday of it. It was one of the most beautiful scenery-wise and a great spectator event as the crowds weren't bad. (I find Badminton etc fantastic but a bit stressful!)

Hope you've found/will find something suitable!

:)

Burghely is great

But I ADORED Bramham - prob because it was the first one I ever went to years ago but its a really good one for visitors

We always do Burghley and Bramham - both are fab for visitors and miles friendlier than Badminton. Bramham is especially good as there is so much more to do - with the Grade A SJ and PC team games etc. As someone else said, its been gorgeous weather the past few years too..

We can't do Burghley either this year, so were thinking of taking the caravan down to Blenheim instead. The place looks lovely, and if I remember correctly, they did great deals on tickets last year, and it was a lot cheaper than Burghley. Would be interested to hear from anyone that has been...

I went to Blenheim for XC day only so didnt stay over. It was beautiful, the XC standard was brilliant and we were lucky enough to have nice weather! My experience also recalls that the bar was pretty good too! If it wasnt so far away I would definately make it a regular on my spectating calendar!
