Equi-N-icE. No mess at all [used to use Like Ice but was a nightmare, got everywhere] and really easy to fasten. They don't slip [even when your horse falls over in the lorry
] and are really easy to reuse!! The resealable bags can be a bit awkward to open if you dont have nails, but other than that I can't really fault them.
i use the aerborn cool sport wraps. They are ok, probably the best of their type. Make sure you soak them for long enough though & they dont stay colder for longer than about 20 mins. Be careful with that Equi N Ice stuff. I got given it complimentary when I worked for a vet & it was new out. I put it on my mare that was Point to Pointing at the time & managed to blister her legs! Probably just the 1 horse but she was not sensitive to anything else so I would never touch the stuff now.
Hello! Yep I use the Aerborne boots, they are great. Dont like using anything that will stay on their legs for a long time as that then heats the legs back up which knd of goes against the whole cooling legs off thing
20mins is perfect for cooling legs anyway. Because they "swell" with the water, you can put them on nice and tight and they support the leg aswell
The Equ N ice things are good in theory, but bandaging a hyped up horse after Xc isnt easy, and the top ups work out expensive over a season... have used them for injuries at home though.
Another vote for Aerborn Cool Boots (they're fab) and a definite vote against 'cooling gels' - my horse is allergic to them and gets blistered legs as Joss said.
