Bloss is on 3 cups stud balancer with stubbs scoop of chaff morning and evening. Shes also still in ridden work (4 times a week). Nothing will change until shes foaled and then she will get 6 scoops balancer morning and evening with the same amount of chaff. (All advised by Baileys and the same as what i did last time she foaled aswell.)
V is 5 month + in foal and other than her, the others are all youngstock or mare with foal at foot and so it is just easier to keep them all on the same thing and so all are on Alfa A and D&H Mare & Youngstock mix and all are doing really well on it.
Just grass My only broodmare is a pony and so a VERY good doer she will stay out all winter and just get hay if its very icy/snowing. She is due next may but will not get any additional feed as I have big problems keeping her weight down during the summer.
the majority of broodmares i look after are ponies so we dont need to feed them a huge amount, they all are given a vitamin and mineral supplement or sometimes we give them equilibra and then they get adlib very good hayledge and an appropriate amount of alfa a pellets (cheaper) with chaff, when they have the foal at foot we just keep an eye on them and give them a little more feed if necessary, we have an aglo mare who doesnt keep to well so she also got sugarbeet and a bit of linseed cake,
my mare was fed just alfa a about a scoop per feed with a vitamin and mineral supplement at the dosage for a horse in hardwork, she is still a young mare and had a very large foal and both her and the foal look amazing, both well covered and have nice coats
My in foal mare is on winergy low and Alfa A with Naff vitamins for in-foal and young stock also out 24/7 most days with good grass and ab lib hay in her field shelter. When she gets to about 8 months in foal, I plan to change her Wingery feed to the Growth feed and add speedy beet with Alfer A with an increase in protein supplement.
Grass/hay when grass has gone, but at the mo the grass is lush, then in December the 3 TB's have D&H Mare and foal stud mix they are due March. The big girls get grass nothing else.
ATM just grass until they come in at night in October, later if possible, then haylage and a pasture mix. She's due April so from Christmas she'll be on a stud feed, good quality haylage and turnout.
Nothing, just grass.
When they start coming in at night they will get scoop of alfa oil, scoop of oats and scoop of stud cubes twice a day, plus vit/min/oil/salt at night.
Thank god my mares not the only one on just grass at the mo!!
I do worry about foal getting nutrients needed but Bella has lived out this summer and done very well on just grass!
However she will be coming in at night from Sunday and I will give her stud balancer and vit. Supplement and haynet.
Will just increase feed after xmas and feed haylege as due 1st week of March. Hopefully all will be ok. I have to remind myself that the tethered gypsy horses produce strong foals on just grass so trying not to worry
My DWB didn't get anything extra apart from a special vitamin/mineral supplement for brood mares. At 3 months before she was gradually introduced to stud nuts and at 6 weeks before she also had raspberry leaves added as it is supposed to help with the labour and uterine contractions afterwards. Afterbirth came away very quickly!
Was her first foal and he was HUGE and still is.
First mares due are just having a scoop of horse and pony nuts at the moment.
Most dont need it but one is older TB mare due 2nd week feb so being fed for her sake really.
They are on good grass and quite a lot of it.
When they come in at the end of October the TB mare will have stud mix and haylage to try and keep her looking well till foaling.
the others due a bit later will stay on horse and pony cubes until the beginning of December when again they will go onto stud mix.
All have adlib good quality haylage .
