Thanks, my yearling has never had hard feed as yet, I have only had her a month but she does not know what bucket feed is so wont eat it, going to start slowly but maybe wait till the grass goes off so she is hungry, don't think she is loosing out on too much at the moment
My warmblood is on d & h mare and youngstock and fibrebeet coz the grazing he was on was wasn't brilliant and was a bit ribby when I got him. Hes out 24/7 and on better grazing now and doing really well
A very wise old horseman and breeder once told me that it was good to see a rib on a yearling; meant it was putting the energy into growing and not storing up fat. A bit like gangly teenagers, but they seem to be a thing of the past too nowadays.....
Cortez don't worry me about ribs being a good thing and them growing lol. He's huge now and he's 13 months! I don't mind a few ribs but when he came he had been wintered in and hadnt thrived at all so I've slowly gained him a few pounds and he looks fab now
My warmblood X is stabled at night with hay due to this suiting mine and my other horses routine. She gets a feed twice a day of alfa a and spillers gro n win balancer. Although the grazing is quite poor at our yard she really is thriving since it has turned to spring/summer.
Nothing! But in the winter I will probably give them 100gms per 100Kg of body weight of Suregrow. They wont get this if we have a very mild winter with loads of grass,or a very bad winter where they get adlib haylage. Mine are out 24/7 so if its a mildish winter with loads of grass with limited nutritonal value they'll need something to make sure they are getting enough vits etc
