What are you looking forward to this winter?

Hunting. The only good thing.

Oh and someone mentioned Olympia. That too.

And christmas. That's fun.

I'm starting to think winter is not as bad as it's made out to be

Bright frosty mornings - the ones where theres not a cloud in the sky and everything is crisp and cold. Although it has to be on a weekend though - nothing worse than a perfect morning for hacking out and you have to go to work instead!

I like the nip in the air, wrapping up warm and making up a nice cozy stable before going home and curling up in front of the fire.

I don't mind the rain, but the novelty soon wears off when your boots get stuck in the mud at the gate, or you are sliding about everywhere whilst trying to keep hold of the lead rope of a horse who is dancing about with the wind up his tail! Wet muddy dogs are also a pain to deal with.

So if we can just have the cold and miss out on the mud, then that would be perfect!

I'm a bit of a hot and sweaty Betty so I am looking forward to not getting too hot riding! :) I love frosty mornings where the grass crunches and cold evenings where I can snuggle under lots of layers and use my horse to warm up my hands! :p excuse for more snuggles! :D

It's also my first winter with my horse so that in general is exciting! :)

As I have taps that freeze up easily and living on steep back lanes I don't love frost much, so I don't want the cold winter some of you are requesting. Living in an area that doesn't flood and having constructed a good all weather turnout area I can live with a winter like last winter. My 215 mile commute wasn't frightening once last year, I rode the horses more than any other winter as the lanes didn't freeze up, and the taps barely froze.

We've lit the log fire this week, I'm enjoying that, and am looking forward to snuggling my hubby as I'm cold rather than sleeping at the other end of the bed because I'm too hot.

But most of all I look forward to a warm sunny Spring.

Cold but bright mornings all wrapped up warm for a long hack. And treating myself to a pub lunch afterwards. Also sitting at home when it's rainy and windy knowing the pony is all tucked up in bed. Getting all my lovely jumpers and hoodys out and no longer needing blusher. I love winter!!

I'm looking forward to getting out the nice cosy heavyweights when the temperature really drops, crisp cold sunny mornings, using my lovely thermatex exercise sheet and no poo stains due to the rugs. I don't mind winter when its cold and frosty, just loathe snow and rain and mud!

Am I the only one that LOVES winter?

1) Cubbing is nearly over so horses can be stables night before hunting proper. Beats walking to the field at 4.30 am praying the horses haven't found mud to play in overnight.
2) Hunting.
3) On the really cold days there is nothing better than making the horses a hot supper and tucking them up in their PJs for the night!
4) Clipped horses, no hair covering everything (but I do hate the clipping part).
5) Those clear, cold mornings to hack out on - loads of trotting and no sweaty head in hat!
6) Making a huge bed with gigantic banks - even enjoy the mucking out!
7) Cosy nights in front of the fire, with a port and mince pies.
8) Chistmas. Such a magical time, and my daughter is 3 now so just getting to be excited about it.

My list could go on forever. I love winter, whether it's cold or mild, dry or wet!

i fear there may be something wrong with you

Hunting

Exercise sheets

Crisp cold hacks all bundled up against the cold.

Going to olympia

And errrr did I mention hunting?

I've just given up my horses.... I've decided to go travelling next year and explore life outside of horses. I'm not missing anything so far, to be honest, especially now winter has hit.

I am looking forward to moving my ponies from their small field on a livery yard, to our very own 4 acres! I am also looking forward to having a huge shipping container with a gas hob and loo! I am very easy to please :)

Cold rather than wet please here too!

We are in the middle of some big shoots so it would be nice if they could get the shoots out of the way in the week and leave the weekends free for us poor riders ;)

I hate the dark mornings and nights so the best bit for me about winter is counting the minutes as the days lengthen after Christmas until that very first night when it's possible to hack after work after being stuck in the school with a silly horse all winter!

The only other thing I really like is seeing the steam from the horses' noses on a cold night, knowing that they have loads of forage and good deep beds.

I love winter actually!!! Not having a horse until I was 21 I always rode other peoples and people are more likely to share their horses in winter, so I had more riding in the winter.

I also dislike the heat and my horse was a mega hairy coloured and I evented so I ended up clipping him out fully all year round or he was just a big sweaty mess and his skin suffered. He was easier to manage clipped. I also had to get up mega early to ride him when it wasn't so hot (before he was clipped).

He did like to dig holes and roll in the slop, but with his full neck rug I'd just hose him and the rug off (it was a great rug and didn't leak even with a hosing so he stayed dry underneath)!!

I like crisp winter mornings, I like the routine that having a horse in at night brings you. Quite like mucking out and bedding down and although getting out of a warm bed is difficult, once I'm up I love winter mornings and being up to see the sunrise!!

However I'd like to try wintering out but it's not really possible on yards round here and I'm DIY.

I also love the sound of horses tucked up in bed munching hay!!!

Admittedly I do despise the mud!!! But I don't mind the cold. You just have to dress correctly!!!

Absolutely nothing, I hate winter. :(

If pushed, a nice hack on a cold, crisp, bright morning (but not the inevitable stinging feet when you jump off - oooouuuuch!)
Seeing them all cosy and warm in their stables, munching their hay
And.........

CHHHHRRRIIIIISSSSTTTTMMMMMAAASSSSS!!!!!!

I'm another one hoping for a cold, dry winter this year. Some snow would be nice too.

I love the sound of leaves crunching underfoot, it being so cold you can see your breath, but feeling cosy in lots of layers and warm boots. The sound of horses munching hay, tucked up in a huge bed of straw out of any horrible weather.

Winter is good as work gets very quiet so will be spending mornings up at the yard (meaning I'll be able to hack everyday), then working afternoons/ evenings. Am actually looking forward too it, unless it's as wet as last year!

The cooler weather means we'll be able to start running the huskies properly too. I'm really looking forward to that!
