I'm good at running round endless fields after my twit of a horse who never wants to be caught

And not so much a skill - I think everyone has it to some certain extent, but I'm quite good at spotting when somethings 'not quite right' with our horses. Maybe because I'm around them all the time so am used to how they move & behave but it's come in very handy in the past when spotting various problems before they become a big issue.

One day I'll find another suitable pony and do a video of me plaiting- it's so easy and quick.

I'll try and explain though...

Pony in the picture had a very thick mane over a foot long as he was a proper welsh C who was shown at a high level inhand. But as long as the mane is at least 4/ 5 inches long you can do this. Make sure the mane is really well brushed and not too clean- have to be able to run your fingers through really easily.

Take three inch long sections at the top of the neck and do the first twist of a plait. As you start the second twist, add another inch of mane to the twist and pull it in tightly. Keep doing that until you get to the bottom of the mane, and then plait the straggly bit as neatly as you can and band the bottom tightly. Tuck it under the running plait and sew it into place with a few loops. Ta da! Done :D

Thankyou, that sound deceptively easy (i bet it's not!) so i'll definitely give it a try. It'll save so much time, i'll even be able to sew the last bit for super-neatness, if i get it down to as fine an art as you have. Ta!

I had a similar thought, I could make Victoria Sponge blind folded and it would still come out good!!

Just read this :p Same here. I never measure anything and it always seems to be just as good. I can't wait for Xmas eve, I'm making chocolate cake, with choccy chips, choccy butter icing with choccy chips on top of that!!

I'm fairly average at the stuff I really want to be good at, but I am good at getting horses to do daft stuff

Riding-wise I'm really good at visualising the worst thing that can happen and not being able to get the image out of my head. :(

I'm okay at mucking out and making a nice firm cosy straw & shavings layered bed for Mollie. Often in the mornings she's hardly disturbed it except for a few very tidy piles and a flatter bit where she's had a lie down. So I like to think she appreciates my efforts.

And I'm generally cheerful and chatty and do try to be pleasant to be around.

I seem particularly good at waisting time, a quick couple of hours at the yard can very easily tun into 4-5 hours without acheving anything extra, which is ok until i get home to a fed up OH

Also seem to be rather good at poo picking :p

I'm fairly good at plaiting... though my lad has a wire mane that is ridiculous to plait - but plaiting horses with normal manes I can do!

Also would like to think that I'm ok at spotting a nice mover and jumper, (something I picked up over the summer). And also good at spotting what I don't like or what's "wrong" with a horse

I'm good at knowing stuff and also saying things that people want to hear, be it stable management or riding analysis I generally can bang out good answers that are to the point and correct - it's brilliant for pony club tests especially, even when the riding is pants I can produce a top class analysis and reasoning :D Coinciding with this, I think I've a fairly good ability to work out what certain people are after, whether it's judging a horse or asking questions I've found I can suss out what they want to hear/see. Sadly this does not translate to my academic work, while I can reel off equine books cover to cover I couldn't tell you what I'm meant to have learnt in school for love or money

Panicking and picnics.

The first happens when it's me doing anything involving riding in front of other people, the second when it's other people (mostly my daughter) doing the riding and I'm just along as support.

At the moment I am very good at window shopping for horses!

That's me too !! Cruising horsey websites and HHO. Shame not quite as good at getting on with WORK. Oops.

And from my thread on hunting forum, scaring myself silly about jumping. But have a newly developed talent for quaffing port. Yum.

I'm good at spending a lot of money on our horses and making sure they want for nothing.
Not good at mucking out (happily on livery so its done for me)

Evidently, I'm also very at being the punch/moan bag for when the OH can't get her horses plaits right and he won't stand still... for some reason that's my fault

Very good at military square shavings beds, however they're now on straw so doesn't really apply anymore!!

.....erm! Probably at being patient and good with neurotic horses!!

I used to be a 'super plaiter', including sticky out tails, but now, having arthritis and only turning out natives for some years, it takes me too long.
I'm a fast and tidy mucker outer and a little OCD about clean tack.
I'm often in demand as 'the person on the floor' when horses are being backed and specialise in teaching clients who have lost confidence and motivation.

However, what I'm really, really good at is slipping on anything and everything, yet managing to never hit the deck! I have been known to slip, slide and pinwheel halfway down the field but remain upright by the time I get to the gate (with muddy hands though!).

Well not plaiting that's for sure.

I wouldn't say I was good at anything to be perfectly honest.

but God loves a tryer an all! :D

I like to think I'm good at caring for my pony - before I had him he was 14 and pretty much wild. I backed him myself, and now will do anything for me :)

I also have a lot of patience with him. When he is being a bugger to catch, I have been known to spend ages following him around without getting the slightest bit mad :)
