Funny you should post this I've just started work with my 4yo this week. At 3yrs she started doing a little in-hand work and at 3 and a bit years she was introduced to tack and sat on twice (walked a circle on each rein) then left. I'm glad I left her as she seems much more mature now then she did at 3yrs just in her ground work as I haven't sat on her again yet (and shes a big girl at 17.1hh now and needed time to grow into herself). I loose jumped her (over small cross poles) for the first time earlier this week and again today :), may get round to posting the pics/ vids from earlier! I'm in no rush and won't start to have aims with her until much later for now we will just progress at whatever pace seems to suit her, my next step is to have my trainer in to evaluate our long lining and in-hand work and also watch her loose jump to get her opinion on anything I should be doing with her now and then I will have her guidance as to when she thinks she is ready to be backed again :).

Mine was 4 yrs old last week.

We have done a little work in the school, walking, learning to bend, very slightly sideways for a couple of steps, a little bit of trotting but not much. Now we will spend the summer mostly hacking out but schooling once a week. May aim to do some prelim dressage over the winter :)

Mine is 4 in June. Sat on him early in the year and he's been ridden 4ish times a week for a few weeks. Mainly going large round the fields and our big arena with a companion. Took him to a dressage clinic last week and he was a good boy in an indoor school with spectators.

Mine was 4 at the stay of may, done a couple of dressasges, a clear round and baby ode. She has another next weekend. She is very bold and in your face and I love her to bits, she hacks alone or in company and will go first or last.

Bought mine as supposedly rising 5 turned out he was only 3.5. And I had competed him already . He's rising 5 now and we jump once a week and hack the rest . Only jumping 2ft3 very occasionally 2ft6

Not mine but my friends rising 4yo who i ride now and again is pottering about hacking, doing intro dressage tests (and doing very well!) and has just popped her first cross pole.

She is an awesome little horse.

When my guy was 3.5 he was hacking out in w/t/c, and basic walk/trot in the school.

He had a break over winter and has just started coming back into work as a 4yo :)

My four year (I assume you mean horses that are 4 this year rather than those that are 3 this year?) only started being broken in a fortnight ago. He's got his own column charting his progress on www.e-venting.com . Once he's far enough on he'll probably have a small low-key outing once a fortnight or so for the next couple of months - RC rally, box up for a hack, clear round SJing, that sort of thing. If he's a superstar he might do a BE 4yo class later in the year but he isn't particularly being aimed at anything other than being sold!

My girl turned 4 on the 17th of May. We have been having lessons every 2 weeks since end of March with hacking alone as no-one to hack out with, a bit of lunging/loose schooling and the odd schooling session on my own practicing what we learn in our lessons. She gets worked 3 or 4 times a week mostly in walk and trot she canter when loose schooling :)

She's a big girl too and having wolf teeth out end of June so I'm not doing a huge amount until they're out.

The 4 year old I am riding, already mentioned on this thread ;) is ready to compete prelim. She is schooled 3 times a week for no longer than 30 minutes. She is mainly working on the basics, especially suppleness and relaxation, but she has also started leg yield, plus lengthening and shortening in trot and canter. She is good at stretching into the rein and working long and low. Every time I ride her I notice the improvement and I can see how easy it would be to push her too quickly as she could easily reach Medium level in a very short time frame, but she is not physically ready for it.

Mine is 4 in july and last year i had him out hacking alone and in company and some light schooling. Started with him again last week and just started hacking him out by himself (another one who has no one to hack out with). I will just hack him for a couple of weeks and thenstart with some lit schooling.

Snap :o:)

4yo was hacking out up to 4 times a week with one schooling session every week or two. He's had a week off then back at it. Going VERY slowly but we're getting there. Just need to find someone to help teach me to canter ;)
