It's really nice hearing about everyones achievements, however big or small...and i was just wondering how many of you have a 'grand plan'?

My short term goal is to be jumping newcomers...and after that maybe fox....and who knows!

(I did think about putting this in the competition forum, but im not just talking about competeing. It could be anything, hacking, learning to do something new....)

Maybe we can spur eachother along a little!

Hmm, ambitions. Quite a few, actually.

Learn to do a bit more dressage.
Get my own horse!
Do some showjumping and dressage with horse

These are all fairly long term ambitions, mind, I'd like to do it all in the next year, but not sure how things will work out.

Ultimately, I would like to try out showjumping, dressage and eventing competitively and see which I prefer, maybe affiliate.

Isabelle

1. To get the Baggage round a little local showjumping course! (No-one's ever achieved this!)

2. To get the Baggage round baby hunter trial without getting eliminated! (No-one's ever achieved this either! lol)

3. To get placed in just ONE showing class of some kind! Family pony, working hunter, hell, anything will do! (No-one's ever.......yeah, you've got it!)

We bought our Hann x TB a couple of years ago, he was only just broken & knew nothing. We've produced him & now he can do a Prelim Dressage Test to around 65%+. We are very pleased. He is however bred for jumping & with his groundwork established we have recenty affiliated him to BSJA & he has had 5 outings. He has managed 3 double clears at BN & is also jumping Discovery, He's now got some money on his card & we are so pleased with him. It's been a long hard road.
smile.gif

For the future......get another double clear in BN & hopefully do likewise in Discovery......with any luck we will be competing Newcomers this time next year.

In time we may even have a go at eventing...who knows?

I have lots

I would like to do an Elementary dresssage test, a M&M working hunter (but it would have to be a Novice one as the Open ones look big to someone like me who is scared of leaving the ground !!), and I would like to do the diddy X Country at Solihull RC as I think the course looks great (although that woul be quite a long way for me to travel). Thats on my Sec D. Long way to go with all of the those as the most he has done is a couple of Novice tests and a clear round so far. I was hoping to achieve more this summer but what with being between lorries and the awful weather I haven't made any progress at all yet ...
I would also like to breed a foal from my Sec C mare who I think is going to be too small for me to ride - Ive seen a lovely chestnut Trakehner at stud in Ireland called Masurenfuerst..... but thats a long-term plan..

There are some great goals on here!

Short term: to get my two rides through to the Nationals would be great!

I would like to compete for GB in Dressage, and when I have the horse, to rude a Grand Prix Kur would be fantastic!

Its funny, only 2 years ago, I was trying to get my horse ready for the BSJA young riders classes!

I suppose in the long term I want to be the best that I can be and to be well known for being a nice and effective rider rather than just winning titles!

Well my goal for this summer is to get my back right so I can ride again! Other than that I just like riding my horse and having fun with him...that's all that matters to me. I enjoy pleasure and endurance rides but not too worried about winning or moving up the ranks as it just puts too much pressure on me and my horse and the fun goes out of it.

With little TB;
Do an intermediate BE (with OH on board LOL)
Medium dressage
This year though to do a few more elementary's and do a novice BE.

With new orange one (eventually);
Jump Foxhunter and compete to Advanced-Medium dressage

This year - to get him going in walk, trot and canter and to do a prelim (even if it's just riding club)and to get some double clears at British Novice.

My goal for this year has been to start show-jumping Jenny again and sorting out her various "issues" with jumping and I have to say halfway through the year I think we are doing quite well (even if I do say it myself). She has been jumping double clears Trailblazers and although she does still have days when the control is a bit iffy- most days its managable. We are off to do Trailblazers this afternoon.
My short term goals for the rest of the year are to continue working on the jumping and get the control issues more consistant and to be jumping round 90cm courses by the end of the year. I am also intending to affiliate BD this year - I would like to be able to break the 70% mark prelim (we been so close at 69.5%) by just generally improving her schooling and to continue to improve at Novice (best has been about 65% so far)
My long term goals for the next few years will be to affiliate BSJA and to start elemantary at BD.

to get bracken pregnant this year! i have been tryin tho shes been at stud since may and covered 3 times!! other than that the long term is with said foal bring it on my self and do what ever discipline it does best!!(stallion does dressage and BSJA!)

It is the one thing that always amazes me about the equine industry, it is so diverse; there is always something for someone.

It really doesn't matter what level you are at, what you do with your horses, there is always a step forward you can take. It doesn't have to be winning anything, it can just all be personal goals.

I have never entered a competition in my life, not even a fancy dress! However, this time next week I will be doing my first Dressage test on my horse Milly! eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

I don't feel ready really, but that is down to the dam weather, as it has put a real stop on my riding.

Yesterday I popped up to the riding school holding the dressage and they were lovely. They showed me round the place and have even said I can go and ride in their indoor school with Milly before the comp, due to all this horrible weather.

I'm not expecting to do very well at all, but it will be an achievement for me to even enter.

my personal ambitions are to get my own horse (one day!) and build up a real partnership and trust so that I can be happy and confident riding again.

Next year, I'd like to affiliate BD

This year, sort out madams slight attitude problems

It's amazing how personal everyones goals are!

My ambition for 2007 at the start of the year were to jump BN BSJA by the end of the year... but then I broke my leg SJ and lost my bottle so lowered by goal to jumping a little unaff comp.

Now I'm back in the saddle and we have come so far so quickly so original goal is back on lol and I'll be getting back into unaff SJ in the next few weeks

My goal is to survive!

I've read so many sad, awful, frightening posts and awesome too, sometimes in the past, that I'll just be glad that my horses are all well and happy - as happy as they can be on the bog we call our land ATM anyway!

My main goals are to have happy healthy foals (including from Twiggy this time) next year so I'll put all other goals on hold until then I think except perhaps to sell Joey to a lovely competition home where he can and does reach his full potential.

Gosh my ambition is gonna sound a bit naff after reading the above!
Oh well here goes, my ambition for me and my big fat hairy (very green) cob, is to go hunting this winter.
She has only ever hacked with previous and only last owner.
Am currently having jumping lessons once a week on her and she's doing soooo well. Can't wait to get out there.

My aim is to train my mare and compete. She is competing at elementary now and working medium. Next season I would love to ride a medium test but need to work on me sitting to the medium trot
crazy.gif

I would be over the moon if I could do an advanced medium too but her canter needs a lot of work before we get the changes.

I dont think we're doing too bad at the mo

Well my short term goal at the moment is to complete a novice ODE in august on millie-i have not done much in the way of ode's and she is 15 and NEVER even done a dressage competition.
A longer term goal would be to keep charlie gonig for as long as possible!!!

My short term aims are to buy a trailer, get Chum loading nicely on it and then getting out and about : lots of lessons, maybe local shows etc. I also want to hunt him occasionly this comng season.
Long term, to be a better rider and have a go at everything
smile.gif

My short term goal with Shadow is to improve our flatwork and do well at dressage, and to have fun doing SJ and XC. My long term goal with Shad is to do BE Intro. Even if we don't achieve any of this, she owes me nothing and she's already exceeded my expectations by affiliating BSJA, being placed BN and jumping Disco. My 'grand plan' is to event, would love to reach Novice. It definitely won't happen for a few years though until I can afford another horsey.

Good post!

Sirena - short term, keep improving our dressage scores at elementary, do more mucic freestyles and sort out some new music! Longer term progress to medium and long long term advanced medium.

Celestial - turned away after backing this year - bringing her back next spring (if I have not sold her before then!)

Lluna - hopefully in foal, but will continue with her lunging/backing. If not in foal want to get her out to her first dressage comp.

Colin - just want him to stop bl==dy growing!

Minta - old girlie (nearly 30), just to keep her as happy and healthy as she currently is.

Crikey - a real mixed bag!

1. sell one horse to lovely family and concentrate on Cloughie.
2. enter SJ comp with him behaving.
3. pass stage III riding and IV care
4. Eventually have farmhouse in Spain ready for riding hols.

Once I've had my baby, I'd like to get my ex-hunter schooling nicely, accepting a contact and actually bending instead of going like an ironing board!!! I've had him 3 years now - what do you think my chances are?!?!?

Hannah
My ambition is to bring her back into work once Troy has been weaned and affiliate her before the end of the year. Before she was put in foal, she was competing unaffil Elementary quite successfully and certainly had the ability to go a bit further, so my aim is to get her to Medium and then maybe breed from her again once she is a little older (she is 11 now).

Troy
At this moment in time my ambition is to get him successfully (and without any stress) weaned from Hannah and happy in his new home
smile.gif
Then, once that hurdle has been managed, I would like to take him to a few SHGB classes as a yearling and eventually back him and start competing him BD when he is ready.

Grace
I fulfilled this year's ambition with Grace - to affiliate BD! In fact, it happened a lot sooner than anticipated and she has now qualified for the Area in Prelim and Novice which I never even hoped for. So, now we are out competing, my aim for her is to qualify for the Prelim regionals and start getting some higher marks. At the moment she is getting 64-65% consistently (with a few 66%s) but I would very much like to get her into the high 60s or even early 70s
smile.gif

Really lovely reading other people's ambitions, although I think most of you are a lot closer to yours' than I am to mine
wink.gif

So in the shorter term, say this year, I would say that my ambitions are:

To get trotting on bouncy riding school horse and not look like a complete muppet!
To get back to where I was before stopping riding for 12 years.
And I would definitely like to get my own horse this year, failing that a loan or share of some kind.

Isabelle

I rode at a riding school from being 6 to 15, then stopped as had other commitments and GCSEs etc. Then at 18 I had a year out from university, and my Dad bought me Hannah for Christmas. She was my first horse, a 16.2hh TBxID rising 5 year old (although was told she was rising 7) who was very green and not the most ideal first horse.

So I started quite late in having my own horse, and only started competing unaffil dressage when I was 22! I have made and succeeded in so many ambitions since that time... I have qualified for the Elementary Derby House Championship with Hannah, bred a foal from her, and have taken on a youngster, rebacked her and am now competing BD on her.

So although you may think yout ambitions are a long way to being fulfilled... I can promise you that you get there a lot quicker than you ever imagined!

If you'd asked this question a week ago I would have said continue getting the Boy fit working well after a year of recuperation (he had an Op last June) and may be a dressage test towards the end of the year. What a difference a week can make -instructor said last Monday we're ready to do dressage tests again and next Sunday we're off to do 2 unaff!

Mid term (year end) get back jumping and possibly do a small comp, next year start XC-ing again.

Long term - If all that comes together, then Sepetmber 2008 Milton Keynes Unaff 3DE.

If they stay happy and healthy, I would like to have a crack at a medium test with my mare, which would be a first for both of us! I have just started jumping the blue-eyed boy, and I would like to jump competitively again, after a break of ten years.
