I mean equipment wise.. I am sorting through stuff as I'm moving and who knew how much stuff I could hoard away that has never even been used!
But now I'm justifying having it even if I didn't know I had it if that makes sense.. : s

So what are the basics you have for yours. Im going to write a list and anything that doesn't fit the list goes!

Everything? Oh er,

Grooming kit
First aid kit
Heacollar and leadrope
saddle /bridle
1 set brushing boots
2 numnahs
2 rugs (1 spare)
1 cooler
Feed bucket
water bucket
2 haynets
sweeping brush
gloves and bucket for muck picking
wheelbarrow
lunge line or 2 for long reining.

Can't.help.myself......

Basic?

(((((((((((((((( somebodystopme...............FORAGE)))))))))))))))))))

Ahhhhh, sorry. I just couldn't not :D

When I emigrated I gave away/trashed or sold practically everything I had collected horsewise over 25 years - a lot!

Once I acquired more horses I discovered that each horse did not need 20 blankets, boots, work bridles, party bridles, gadgets etc.

I have 4 bridles, 4 saddles, 2 driving harnesses, MW outdoor rugs of various sizes and states of disintegration, 2 cotton sheets and a quilt. If it fits, a horse wears it.

They share a grooming kit (mane and tail detangler and MTG are vital) feed bowls and buckets.

I possess no boots or gadgets whatsoever.

I have a shedload of halters, to fit everything, yet I use only 6 leather halters.

Pretty comprehensive First Aid kit.

That's it.

I can go to the tack store and honestly say that I don't need anything.

I've just recently had a clear out and now own a saddle, bridle, neckstrap (sold my martingale after realising he only wore it so I had something to hold onto and it didn't actually stop him from rearing), grooming kit/competition box and first aid kit, headcollar and leadrope, a set of stable bandages and padding from when he was box rested, 4 haynets and buckets of varying size, a few numnahs of different colours for different disciplines and 1 set of black tendon and fetlock boots for jumping/xc

We had to buy a bigger house to store everything ... so i`m probably not the best person to ask ..... :o

Err well given I wanted to find a old foam pad to put under my saddle when my horse lost some hair (i.e. to cut a hole over where the hair was lost so it wouldn't rub) as I distinctly remembered having it, and I went to the garage where everything that isn't used often goes, and I spent 3 hours rootling around stuff I forgot I had, I'm not a good person to ask!

On the plus side I did find a sheepskin girth sleeve, noseband, some new unused soft OR and a leadrope, all of which were on the shopping list :o

Saddle & Bridle x 1 (2 if you go out to lots of parties I guess)
Wheelbarrow
Fork, Shovel and Sweeping Brush
Grooming kit
First Aid Kit
Assorted rugs (unless your horse is a total rug wrecker you really do not need more than 2 of any weight and tbh these days you don't really need separate stable and t/o rugs so only non t/o I'd class as essential is a cooler of some sort)
Headcollar and Leadrope (you really only need one of each plus a spare maybe if you're paranoid)
Feed bins
Feed bucket
Water bucket
Lunge line
Hat, gloves and boots for you (plus bp possibly)
HiViz for the pair of you
Duct tape
Bailing twine
Scissors / knife
Somewhere to lock it all up

Deep pockets

Vet on speed dial

Poultices and vetwrap

Feed bins
Feed bowls
Haynets, a few, sometimes need to do haynets for a day in advance
Normal buckets and tub trugs ( fab things, I have one as a skip, one for my supplements, one for storing random bits and pieces... )
Water carriers
Grooming stuff
Headcollars and ropes
Tack
Lunging kit
Chifney, no longer used

Spare tack lives in the house, I have a good collection of bits and cavasson nosebands, I either don't use one or use a drop

Enough of spare everything as inevitably you think you have loads, and then they break or horse trashes something.
Besides the obvious saddle, bridle rugs etc, at least spares of bridle, stirrup leathers, several pairs of reins, and girths. All to my mind essential to ensure you have it to hand should one break. Unless you like riding bareback, or without a bridle, of course!

I've just had a clear out, so the below is what I'm left with - one or two things aren't strictly essential, but didn't want to get rid of!

My essentials:

*Mucking out equipment - wheelbarrow, shovel, straw fork, broom and dustpan and brush.
*Stable equipment - 2 water buckets and one spare, three feed bowls, 4 x double netted haynets, two bins to keep feed in, one feed scoop, a feed stirrer, dustbin for soaking hay & stable nut ball.
*Grooming equipment - hoof pick (I think I kept two!), Silverfoot hoof dressing, dandy brush, body brush, rubber curry comb, metal curry comb, sheepskin grooming mitt, mane and tail comb, mane and tail spray, seven day mud away spray & baby wipes, shampoo and towel.
*First aid kit - Silvastrol, hibi scub, purple spray, vet wrap, wound cream, cotton wool, gamgee, polo bandages & bute.
*Headcollar and leadrope
*Rugs - 1 x no fill standard neck turn out, 1 x 50 gm standard neck turn out, 1 x 180gm standard neck turn out rug, 1 x fleece, 1 x fleece/mesh cooler &1 x lightweight stable rug
*Tack - rope halter, 12 foot & 22 foot lines, carrot stick, natural hackamore, cavesson bridle & mullen mouth snaffle, general purpose saddle, 2 x girth, stirrup leathers, stirrup irons, set of brushing boots and 3 numnahs/saddle pads.

That's about it!

Lol billy, that's exactly what I was thinking when I clicked on this!
My essentials would take too long to type, basically in addition to the stuff I keep at the yard, plus the spares in the back of the haybarn, when horse stuff takes over half my shed I tend to have a clear out.

Just to clarify once again I'm not hho silver, sorry if you and billy don't mean tit that way

An understanding husband- no idea what's in our study (now known as Troy's wardrobe...) as I can hardly get in there but I do know I've never needed any of it...

It's funny how I use the same few things every day and the huge amount of 'best' stuff never sees daylight. I'm sure I will need the matchy sets and rugs in every weight and for every situation at some point but it seems a shame to get them dirty

My must have list is:

Wheelbarrow, fork and broom.
Water bucket and feed bucket.
Two feed storage bins.
Plastic curry comb and hoof pick.
Headcollar and leadrope.
Bridle, bit and reins.
Hi-viz tabard and leg wraps.
Equine first aid kit.

I see all other horse equipment as a luxury tbh.

The additional things I find myself using regularly are:

Turnout rug.
GP saddle with stirrups, girth, numnah.
Body brush.
Tail detangler.

The rest of my huge mound of equipment I could quite easily sell and not miss any of it.

I never throw anything away, a few times I've tried as soon as it's gone I need it !!
I have a double garage which could easily double as a second hand tack/ rug shop.

How about put everything in a spare stable then as you need things put them away where they would usually live and anything left in the spare stable in a few months is fit to go?

A sense of humour ;)

Also . . .

Headcollar (preferably leather)
Leadrope
Wheelbarrow
Something to store feed in to keep it away from vermin
Feed bowls\water buckets\something to cover feed with even if it is only an old towel
Basic grooming kit - hard and soft brushes, hoof pick, sponges
Basic first aid kit - hibiscrub, purple spray, iodine, cotton wool, vet wrap, surgical batting
Rugs - depending on horse
Haynets
Hooks for hanging things on
Baler twine
Supportive and knowledgable friends

Muck out kit - wheelbarrow, fork, brush, skip
stable fittings - feed bucket, water bucket, treatball, haynet
feed room - 3 x feed bins, small buckets x 2 (used for water & baths), spoon
grooming - mane and tail conditioner/detangler, body, dandy, mane/tail brushes, sweat scraper, de-sheding blade, metal and plastic curry combs,
tack - saddle, bridle, 1 set of boots (rarely used) lunge line x 2
headcollar & lead rope
rugs - far too many
travel boots
first aid kit

and a very rich oh to pay for it all :D:D

Bare minimum, for a hardy cob:

Muck out stuff - shavings fork, broom, shovel, wheelbarrow.
Stable stuff - water bucket, feed bucket, couple of haynets.
Grooming stuff - hoofpick, dandy brush, plastic curry, mane brush, shedding blade.
Riding stuff - saddle (+ accessories: numnah, stirrups, leathers, girth), bridle (+ accessories: bit, reins), hat.
Lunging stuff - cavesson, line, whip.
Other stuff - headcollar, leadrope, basic first aid kit.

We don't need rugs, boots, feed or the like. However, you'll find that very few people have the bare minimum... it seems escalate... and collect :o

Ive got a youngster at the moment and I recently bought her and had to buy everything again from scratch (not sure what happened to all my old stuff)
My shopping list was:
First aid kit
Headcollar and leadrope,
dandy brush,
body brush
hoof pick
rubber curry comb
plastic curry comb
lungeline
haynets
2x water buckets
2x feed bucks

so i guess thats my essentials list... this has now expanded, and i now need a bridle, lunging roller, bit etc! haha
