A change in trainers commencing Feb 2012 brings with it a new sense of determination and excitement for young Tyson...

My main goals for him are to be more confident out on group walkies, he's a good boy so I need to give him more of a chance.
For Bryony, I want to really try and be more confident with her and crack on with her socialising and generally focusing on getting her out and about and showing her life.

So, what are your plans for 2012?

Not in a hurry with anything, just going to keep pootling on, young man will be 1 next month so just going to take our time, start back at the bitey stuff  and hopefully be ready to compete when he is 20-24 months old.
Looking forward to getting his hips and elbows done, can't wait to see what they look like.

Hoping for a healthy 2012 for the big dog **PLEASE!!** (he has scalded ears at the moment, copying Tyson :p) and maybe do a bit of SAR training with him if I get time.

By next season my aim is to get my 5k time under 28 minutes and to socialise Ricoh enough that he can run in company, be overtaken safely etc. as that will give us a very good chance of a rosette in the two-dog women's open. :)

I finish my degree this summer (ohgodohgodwhatamIgoingtodo?!) which means I can finally commit to the long drives and camping out which will be involved in going to rallies, I would very much like to attend both of the Wyedean mushing dates and the open training event at Elveden.

I might also leave this one until next winter because I am a pansy but Dax will be entered in a bona fide agility competition at some point next year.

Pips starting her next 6 week block of puppy school 3rd Jan, so complete that successfully then go on to Bronze, Silver, Gold KC Good Citizen awards. That should take us past August easily so she'll be over 1 & able to make a good start with our local agility club!

Carry on training Miss Whippet and maybe try a bronze award if my local class do them.

Take her to a show or two and try to get a prize card.

But mainly, have her recall good enough, so that when she inevitably meets a herd of deer, she comes back and doesn't end up trapped in a cellar like a local dog that was lost on Christmas day (now returned safely to her owners)....

Main goal is to get Evie in whelp and then have a healthy bitch pup for me to keep. :D Whilst waiting for this, to keep working on her tracking which has been sadly neglected recently whilst I have been a) dealing with the mad Pickle and b) hardly able to move due to a damn trapped nerve in my neck.

KC Good Citizen awards, and there is no reason Tyson shouldn't get a gold one, Evie did! Its basic obedience tests, starts with bronze, then silver, then gold. Evie did all 3 without a problem though I nearly let her down with the owners questions part.

Darcy got her bronze award but not going to bother with the silver and gold as I only went for the socialisation as she was fear aggressive and she conquered that. Ive done a basic agility course with her and she is brilliant so will carry on with that in the spring.

Diesel (one brain cell Diesel) is a lovely friendly lump of a dog and apart from working on his obedience training I dont have any further plans for him.

Pip our 7 month Lancashire Heeler pup will be starting ringcraft classes as soon as my daughter and bf get back from holiday at the end of January. I am practising handling her on the table and we would like to show her. The daughters bf wants to take her shooting, ratting and rabbiting and she has already made her first kill on Boxing day. It was a Mixi rabbit but she killed it very quickly and has a strong hunting instinct, guns going off dosnt worry her but I fear when she retrieves she will just want to eat it as did my previous LH dogs.

To find THE right dog for a fabulous working cocker bitch, the property of a neighbour, take the bitch, whelp her, and if there are enough puppies, retain two as payment. The neighbour is an idiot, albeit a very nice one, so the chances of success are slim!!

Thanks to a posted vid by C_C, I've been seriously impressed by a few of the Mal-in-wahs (thanks for that, someone!), and it wouldn't take much to push me into the direction of a PD dog with the sharp approach to life, of a sheep dog. I'm probably day dreaming!!

for Star, it will be to complete her agility training so that she is ready to come out and compete at 18 months as all my others have been.... in reality, I'm due my baby in early May and she is due out early June, so we'll see. The winter weather has been kind so far so we arent so far behind as I thought we might be. Will have to invest in a new set of weaves in the new year as well though as the darned spacing has changed at kc shows so no point starting her on my current set. Will defo be out competing with all the others as soon as Im able, with pram at ringside:D Although how well I will manage the first shows of the season in April Im not sure lol

I competed in agility (actually qualified for Crufts) 2 weeks before my daughter was born, and was back competing again 3 weeks later, with pram by ringside as you say.:p The only problem was my GSD bitch was so devoted to the new baby she always had one eye/ear on the pram, and if baby should cry the dog buggered off and left me.

M_M,

I've known of several GSD bitches which have guarded their small two legged companions, and every single one of them has been the type of bitch which the dog man would crave! ;) What would I give for one now?

It was actually a bit of a problem for the first few weeks of my daughters life, I had to remove the bitch from the room if anyone wanted to come and coo over the baby, otherwise there would be a GSD sitting by the pram fixing them with a rather evil glare. :D

This year I would love to find an activity to dedicate some time to and keep my dog occupied with. He is SO keen to please, very clever and a generally nice person but I have no idea what to try him with.
He hunts the most fearsome cover on walks and even POINTS with zero encouragement, but work schedule doesn't allow for beating/picking up and frankly I wouldn't know where to start anyway. Plus maybe he is crap and I am being deluded!

Maybe new years resolution should be find a new job?!
