What are your cues for a light back up?

I kiss because I carn't cluck. It is important to implement this cue on the ground first, but I'm sure you know that already.

With Whisper on the ground I say "back up" and if need be (rarely) a light poke on her chest. Willow is still learning so needs a wee push!
On board I say "back" and make a clicky noise, along with legs on and rein contact.

On the ground I point at his chest. I've also taught him to back up from a finger wiggle, as we used to share the field with a NH person This was the cue she taught her horses and I wanted him to understand her. Strangely, he never did - must be something about her intent that didn't appeal to him 
So he'll back up from a finger wiggle from me and my partner, but her finger wiggle just didn't have the magic

On board, I pretend to look at my belly button (eternal thanks to the person who told me this all those years ago
