What are your current gripes about rugs... :)

That apart from the chicken rugs, and a very snazzy neon yellow and blue JW rug, rugs only come in boring colours! I used to have a superman rug but the company went bust :( I'm hoping Shires get excited about the all the frantic chicken rug buying and come up with similar stuff for next year!

If you like jazzy colours then look at Maxima Equestrian rugs - this heavyweight combo turnout can hardly be called boring:

that I can never remember which weight which rug is and it doesn't sa on them

^ This. I remember with the ones that I've bought, but I've had a few very nice rugs donated over the years and I have no idea how warm they're meant to be.

That my fab Premier Equine turnout is so deep that it reaches below my pony's knees. It seems that they only reduce the depth of the rugs up to 4'6 so my 4'9 is perfect length but like a marquee in depth. Whoever styles their rugs needs to go and actually look at a pony to understand THEY HAVE SHORT LEGS!!

Sensible rug companies design their rugs to have detachable leg straps that can be converted into a fillet string - suits both the 'leg strap' and 'fillet string' advocates then!
:D

That's the first thing I do, change leg straps to fillet strings :)

tbf most rug companies need to go and look at ponies, most of them seem to have no idea what a pony actually looks like.

I always used to whip off leg straps but I now live somewhere extremely windy and I do like to have the option of putting on leg straps when we have 70mph winds, which is not infrequent. The last DH and PE rugs I bought (one of which was not cheap) doesn't have the option, they have fillet strings and the sort of tail band on the tail flap as seen in fly rugs. I would like the option even if they don't supply the straps.

I too wish they would print the rug weight on the rug. I have mine written down and assume they will become thinner over time.

Couple of years ago, I researched and forked out for a horribly expensive Fal stable rug as it could be put on a damp horse. The front fastenings are specifically designed to test your patience to such a degree that this rug is now only used as a back up. Staff would give up and just use the Velcro (so rug would slip) and it could easily take me a good 5 or 6 minutes simply to fasten the front. I always check fastenings now before buying and on receipt.

Check rugs that have been cleaned for the same reason. Nothing like going to put a cleaned rug on, only to find it's not yours ...

That there are no 50g or 100g half neck rugs and very few affordable lightweight half necks around especially in a 1200d outer that are really really waterproof. I have a hot horse who is prone to skin problems and needs to be kept dry! and £200 for a rhino rug is just ridiculous though I have just got one for £70 so I feel a little happier though Im poor and prefer my rugs under £50 and to last for years lol (yes yes I know am not being very realistic but my masta avante did last 2 years before leaking and only cost £25 in the sale)

This, total lack of half neck rugs. Would love to see more about as the choice is really rather poor. Higher denier outers too please and lets have more choice of lighter weights, I would like to see more in the 50-150 region. Everything seems to have no fill or 220+ of fill. Hoops for leg straps too please rather than having to add them myself!

Oh also a minor thing but less sludgy/boring colours and bring on bright and jazzy. I would like to be able to spot my horse easily in the gloom!
