A reason to go outside on miserable days, being at one with nature, spotting birds and such, always having something to do and somewhere to go, taking endless pictures of her! I just love being on my own but not on my own if you know what I mean!
The neigh when you arrive at the yard! My field has borders with the car park and he sees me every time! Then he's at the gate, then I have to let him in where he dutifully joins me at the boot of the car searching for grub as I switch into wellies!!
The smell of them, I was crying today and buried my face in one of my boys necks, he stood like a rock, didn't move, the warm scent of him, when I pulled away from him to wipe tears away he gently put his head to me..
(I burst out crying again lol)
I could sit with them for hours, comes to something when you prefer the company of horses to humans...
Going to see them last thing at night and the smell of warm horse and the sound of them eating hay.
The smell of sweat. (Horse not mine!).
When my new boy, who was nervous, rests his head against me so I can wrap my arms around him and he leans into me...love it.
I love the little things they do to humour themselves. Like playing in the field, chasing each other or me (nicely!), they also do funny things like tail me everywhere I go or splash in the trough when its filling or supervise when I poo-pick. For me, I could live without riding, I just love what makes my ponies mine.
Just loving them... every hair on their hairy bodies.... the smell... the sounds... the worry... the beauty... the surprises... the careing... just them !
Her smell and the way she makes every single rubbish thing and vile customer at work somehow worth it because it means I get to have her. There is no other feeling in the world that compares to cuddling up to your horse after a c****y day.
When you're alone with her on a cold dark night and everything is a bit bleak. You're together out in the still and suddenly emotions take over, guilt, sadness, frustration, anger..... So you cry and she stands there solid as a rock just breathing and listening - turning an ear when you make a whimper. Then you pack yourself back up, get together and head back down to the yard to greet the other liveries.
Waking up, thinking I have to go and do the blooming horses before I go to work (but loving it when I am out doing it - ish........) Really good rides, especially in the winter when everything is crisp. Glad that they give me the opportunity to have some exercise and relieve stress to mitigate the day job.
The whinny greeting and I love how she runs over to me and follows me from the other side of the fence when I'm walking home through. Oh so many things! Seeing her progress and trust me to do anything with her. Love how she backs right up when I approach her stable, v well mannered youngster she is. Even love the 6am cycle and walk to the yard, I'm fitter than ever and it releases those endorphs ready to start the day and looking forwards to those extra mince pies!
When they begin to show that they trust you. I was quietly talking to my grumpy old man yesterday (share horse) who is not keen on cuddles usually when he took a step closer to me instead of his usual "stop fussing woman and feed me" act
Also the comedy factor..I'd told of the TB yet again because he blocks the gate and will take a sly bite at any horse or human getting past him. Yesterday he waited until my back was turned and then shoved me through the gate making me spill my scoop of poop! at least it's an improvement in being nipped.
untacking after a successful spring morning ride with the birds singing and the smell of slightly wet grass, feeling like you can take on the rest of the day happy )
When I've had a bad day, just seeing them makes me smile.
They each have their own little characteristics that are endearing.
Their whickers, smell, soft noses and dark brown eyes.
Giving them a full groom.
Horse hugs.
Watching how they interact, or come and help me when I'm poo-picking.
Going for a good canter!
