What are your horses quirks?

Twiglet escapes if he's not triple bolted into his stable.

He loves cuddling, will stand for hours asleep with his head on my shoulder.

If he gets really stressed he freezes and won't move a muscle until the rider gets off and leads (which is great fun in moving traffic.......)

Winston acts very stallion like occasionally, he will let you do anything to him litterally, but go near his bits with a sponge and YOU ARE DEAD lol

Snoopy will rear if put under pressure when ridden and when hes stood in the horse box.

Bertie can take hours to catch him.

The beast grins when he is concentrating or if he is angry. Its not a pain thing (numerous dentists & vets have confirmed) just a quirk.

Had a fabulous comment on the top of a dressage sheet once that was something along the lines of "its not often I get the horse AND the rider grinning at me as they trot up the centre line" LOL

Oliver gets very stressed by other horses approaching from the yard on the right hand side of him when he is tied up. A whole procession of horses can come from the left and he ignores them but, if one comes from the right hand side, he snorts and rolls his eyes as though he is terrified. Have never been able to work that one out...........

If Jazz suspects you are carrying treats she picks you up and shakkeeesss you till they fall out of your pockets , she'll drop you then

Hmmmmm, not a quirk as such but the painted pony LOVES having her bum scratched, she will reverse, everso carefully, into position and if you move backwards away from her she'll just keep coming. If you sidestep, she'll turn her head to check where you are and then, terribly deliberately, gently swing round back into position

Reminds me of a large ship coming about.

LOL, Jazz does this too! She will lift her hind leg like a dog having a pee just so you can really get in there!!

That reminds me I must let other owners at yard know this or they'll accuse her of attacking them

otto does silly little bucks when you put his rugs on, he's a grumpy ole git especially in winter and forever pulling faces, but he is a very good jumper so we let him off.

Jazz does this too ! Only she'll suck the end of her leadrope if she's a bit worried about something. Defo a comfort blanket thing and I don't think sh'll grow out of it either , being doing it for 10 years.

My mare is so neurotic I'd be here all day going through all her little quirks!! One of her funniest ones though is trying to climb into the wheelbarrow while I'm mucking out, she reverses slowly into it and then lifts one leg up at a time and tries to step into it!! She got one leg in once and knocked the whole thing over and then looked at me as if to say 'look at that mess, would you ever clear it up?'!! My gelding does the same thing with buckets and tries to stand in them, when he was on box rest I used to give him all the buckets to lick after I'd put feeds into the mangers and he'd spend ages trying to put one foot in each bucket, the most he ever managed was two feet in two different buckets!! He's easily amused!!! There used to be a tyre swing in his field and as it was quite high of the ground (bout 3 foot) I didn't think it would cause a problem and the gelding liked to bang into it and then watch it swinging- like I said he's easily amused. Anyway was passing the field one day and heard heim neighing and went out to find he'd put one of his front legs through the tyre and then circled around and twisted the rope so it had tightened and shortened and he was literally hanging from the tree!! I had to go and cut him down, thankfully he was fine- he hadn't been like that for long as I'd only put him out bout 20 minutes before but the tyre swing has not been put back up!!!

I have indeed found this to be true with titch! He is a sod to handle at home, kicks, tries to nip and always grumpy!! As soon as he has tack on he is a happy willing to please boy and very cuddly!

Must be in the name!!! I had a "Titch" like this. Totally miserable in the field but when she went anywhere... brilliant! We always said if she could have hitched the box up and taken herself off to a show she would have done so!!!!!

I was just commenting today that when I got Ellie she was the most characterless horse I had ever met
crazy.gif
She had no personality at all.

Now she is so cheeky.

She sill put the back of the head collar in her mouth when you go to put it on as though she is trying to take the bit

If you muck out while she is in the stable she 'helps' by digging all the muck you have sorted and firing it back into the stable, all the time looking to see if you are watching her. Or she will knock the barrow over and then walk to the other side of the stable as if to say "It wasn't me I am over here!" You pick it all up and she does it again......infuriating!
