What are your opinions about reiki healing?

I have been having Angel healing for the last two years, I had reiki on one ocassion, and while it was relaxing, i wont be going back, think angel healing is much better. Am a work in progress with becoming an angel healer, will def be trying it on animals too. It wont hurt them, and can only hope it will help. x

My horse has a history of back issues steaming from bone spavin in back legs. He had been fine for about a year and I started to feel he just wasn't right and he was throwing tantrums being ridden etc so laid him off work for a while, vet said he was fine I knew he wasn't.

My big burley boss (biker type guy) asked about horse as he sometimes did and I told him horse isn't right vet says he's fine etc (never mentioned history). Turns out he is a Reiki Master (only a few people at work knew) he doesn't charge (supposedly against the belief of a true healer). I was sceptical and my horse is not the friendliest with strangers but thought nothing to lose. He made it clear he had no experience with horses so made no promises. He asked for a face on pic of horse and was planning in coming out to yard the following week. On the Sunday I went to yard to take horse in from field and he came cantering over when I called him (that is unusual) but as he was coming over he was spooking at thin air zig zagging all over the place. I took him in at he was all over the place snapped 4 lead ropes so decided to put him back out. Saw boss on Monday who said he tried to connect with horse on Sunday and asked me to clarify a few things to make sure he got the right horse....such as cow kicks out with left leg, wears a certain colour rug etc. I asked what time he connected and it was just as I arrived at yard he apologised and said he should have warned me as horse would sence there is someone there and feel his touch but not be able to see anyone so might freak out. So the Tuesday comes and we go to field I have head collar in hand and boss says no this must purely be his choice. Horse comes over and circles boss inquisitively, ignores me then goes right over tentatively, stands still and let's boss start the reiki (horse never stands still). He never physically touched horse and he said that he had tension in his back but it was coming from somewhere else in his back leg. He never said he would heal him just take a look to try and pin point area/issue. I was fed up going pillar to post with vets/physio. So my horse was so relaxed and boss went to water trough did some healing to the water so it would have soothing properties when horse took a drink. Then he said what is the phrase "you can take a horse to water but can't make it drink". So he walked with him to trough and horse stood there drinking. I was sceptical but amazed, no he didn't heal him but he never claimed he would but he was right about hock he clarified what I was thinking so I straight away requested x-ray. I got vet to x-ray and there had been further movement in hock. Amazing to watch but I certainly wouldn't buy in to it or use it to replace tradition veterinary practices and this guy clearly stated to me that it is a gift and a true healer would NEVER charge a fee/run a commercial business.

I once also did T Touch (again for his back) and next day he could hardly move it was quite distressing and when I phoned them up they said oh yes he will feel very sore it will feel the equivalent of being in a car crash. I was so close to calling vet out but he came ok...that was distressing.

Sorry for long speal, interesting thread and I wanted to share my experience.

I am very surprised that the Tellington Touch caused this afterwards, it is so gentle, you are only moving the skin over the muscles underneath, there is no massage or depth.
My husband loves this technique, which I do if he has a sore back.

But of course, all these hands-on techniques are ultimately in the hands of the person doing them, and they vary and add on their own beliefs and "refinements." Which might be a good thing or a bad thing.

Very, very interested to hear of the good experience with your Reiki Master. I have had experiences of Reiki, which did absolutely nothing, but on the other hand I have had a lot of good experience with a healer, who did not call himself Reiki or anything else. Although I think he COULD have called himself Reiki. He learned after visiting a Physic Fair on a wet Saturday afternoon and one person there said he was a healer and start on the cat, and then progress to friends, family.

He ended up treating horses (I have had two successfully treated by him) and humans and mostly the reports are good. One person was being treated and the thing that spooked him was the healer changed the TV channels without touching the controller or the TV! (He wanted to watch a race for one of "his" horses.). Even the local vets will refer a horse to him sometimes if they are really stuck for a diagnosis.

So I do not dismiss individual skills at all, I think a lot of this comes down to the individuals. Humans are very suggestible to any sort of "healing", even the GP at a surgery can give you a good talking to and make you feel better. Horses and pets, of course, are much better at being a judge at who is good and who is not.

Yes T Touch was very gentle, they even used the same pressure on my arm and it was so light. His back was very tight and shoulders etc so they did warn me he'd be stiff next day and not to be alarmed but I was. After speaking to them the next day I could believe the reaction to such a gentle treatment but they said it was quite common.

It's all about the individuals I suppose. Interesting thread

Nope, nobody? Back still hurts. Brain also hurting now... I am an honest guinea pig.

I might give it a try before I pass judgment. I am all for what works and reserve prejudice for when I have facts that say it does or doesn't and even then, one experience alone does not make a clinical trial!

If anyone knows someone who does it for free and is a "real" healer, get in touch.

I have been attuned to Reiki for nearly 14 yrs. I use regularly on my animals. Have had fantastic results and even my vets agree it helps.

I always seek medical advise first and use Reiki alongside .

Tallyho, I don't normally mention this but I am a Reiki "healer". I very much doubt that you are anywhere near me, but I'd be happy to try a bit of distance work for you at an arranged time. I am not very comfortable with the use of the word healing with any of these therapies, because I feel strongly that nobody should claim to be able to heal. It sounds a bit wafty, but your body and higher self take what they need. When giving Reiki to people I've had feedback that varies from "quite relaxing but I didn't feel anything" to others saying that aches and pains went away for a while. I also give it to animals, and the most obvious reaction is when they fall asleep. :-))

I don't charge for what I do, and I've got nothing to gain or lose from a little experiment.

p.m. me if you'd like to give it a go. For distance healing we need a time when you can take yourself away to a quiet and comfortable place for ten minutes or so. Maybe one evening would be best.

Thank you tinypony! I will pm you. I really appreciate it. Most evenings are relaxed for me unless I'm doing something worthwhile on here :D. Joking.

Guinea pig... Hired! :):)

I'm going to add - I do know that there is something in this Reiki, but I'm not a meditating over crystals sort of person and don't analyse it too much. A couple of examples -
I knew my friend was seriously ill before he did. Not right to give to much detail but suffice to say that I was giving him Reiki when I felt that his immune system was poor and his liver was not good. I rang my Reiki master (Laura Mason) and left a message on her ansaphone asking if she could send some to my friend. She rang me back, and before I said anything - "His immune system is compromised, he has liver problems but I don't think the doctor's have found it yet. They should be careful about his lungs. You know what it is." Some of you might be able to guess what it was, but suffice to say a month or so later our feelings were confirmed. Of course, I didn't tell him, no complementary practitioner should ever diagnose.

Here's my little mate Fluffycat.

I was stroking her on my lap one day and felt heat under my hand around the area of her kidneys. Got a bad feeling. Took her to the vet and asked him to test her for kidney problems. She was only 6 at the time and he poked her about a bit, said there were no signs but he would test anyway. He rang me that evening and asked me to bring her straight back because her kidneys were indeed in trouble and she needed to get on a drip, then tablets and a special diet. He was a bit stunned but open minded when he asked why I'd brought her in and I told him. She's not about any more, but at least she got the care and was with me for another year. :-)

Never tryed it but my ex-hubby is a reiki practitioner (prob makes me even more against and biased!) treating humans and various animals including horses. He dropped out of school early, has never been back to any form of education, hardly knows one end of a horse from another but after a week- end course is now a fully qualified reiki practitioner!!!! A second week-end i think qualifiers him to teach others. Personally would rather have someone with a bit more training go near my horses!

Saying that when ever he's been near them apparently they've not been in a receptive mood to his healing power! My immediate thought was a placebo effect if owner believes in it. I'm open to being convinced otherwise if it was anyone else doing it.

I believe the heat in 'hands on' and relaxation the therapy brings can work, but only because of those things. Dad did a whole load of training in reiki and used it on any injuries in the family and on our old mare. She loved it, me less so as I never found it relaxing - I think because it was dad and he used to pull funny faces and make funny noises while he was 'channeling' :D

There are different schools of Reiki (bit like barefoot trimming LOL!). I think that is where some of the seemingly superficial training courses have come from. My Reiki master was attuned by Madam Takata (for anyone who's interested) and was quite selective about who she trained. After each attunement we had to go away for a period of time to practise and let it all settle. Then we would be invited back for the next stage. Before anyone gets cynical about this being a money-spinner, I'll just say that she didn't always charge for the training. Also - when I say we went away to practise - I mean on each other. Every Thursday evening we knew where we could go to, donate some money to the local animal rescue, and share a treatment room with other practitioners. Anyone could bring someone with them who was in need, and they would be given Reiki. By the end of the evening all of the Reiki healers would have a session as well.

Having been sceptical about Reiki I was talked into having a Reiki session. After that I was hooked so took my Reiki 1, 2 and Masters over a period of 18months.

I wouldn't call it healing, certainly wouldn't use it as an alternative to medical help although it is good for channelling healing energy to areas where the person needs it most.

I treated a lady and used crystal pendalums within the treatment, I picked up that there was something going on with her heart. Apparently she had a heart murmour although I wasn't to know that. Another example, my friend thought her horse was not quite right, vet had visted and found nothing wrong. I gave her Reiki and said whatever the issue it's in her stomach, when she advised vet they scoped her and they found 3 small gastric ulcers.

I give my mare Reiki on a regular basis, by the time I've finished her head is almost on the floor and she's so much more relaxed in and out of the stable than she used to be.

I also have examples of distant Reiki working although I must admit when I was first told about it I thought 'OK I now understand Reiki but distant Reiki'
