What are your thoughts on this advert?

I would actually be quite cautious of that horse because something is obvously making them do that!

But my instructor would be pulling her hair out if I sat like that :p

Agree abt riders' posture and mare's lack of condition.

It *could* be that they are a family of slouchers/have the same poor/no instruction so wouldn't discount the horse because of that alone.

wrt the body protector I use mine every time I ride anything and many RSs that do livery insist on them for jumping anyway. We don't all think horses are saints because they have a kid with no hat balanced on them in an ad picture so to me that wdn't make any difference either way.

I would be interested to see this horse IRL. It looks to me as if they are digging the spurs in and hauling on it's mouth to force it into an outline. I'd love to see it ridden by a quiet rider without spurs and with soft hands.

I wouldn't call the riding position in the photos slouching, it's more of leaning back position with the heels up to really dig those spurs in. It really looks like alot like the rider is hanging/pulling hard on the reins, hense the leaning back.

As its a Mother Daugther share, I would suggest they have the same instructor - who ought to be shot! (Rarely people ride the same from just being related/watching each other etc)

ETA in reply to the body protector comment, I know of a qualified instructor who will not get on a horse without a BP - wore it for all BHS exams etc

Is it just me, or does it look like it;s got a roach back? mabe thats why their leaning, to disciuse(sp?) it.

If it does have a roach back, it is nowhere near as bad as this quarter horse has.

A slight roach back wont really cause the horse problems and it certainly wouldn't put me off a horse that was lovely in every other respect.

I don't think that they are riding in that way to disguise the horse's confo (I think that they are just bad riders) but the lack of an untacked, side-on photo is interesting. It's hard/impossible to properly judge the horse's back when it has a saddle on.

I think they are riding with their reins far too long so their hands are right in their laps.

i agree its probably the way they ride the horse to make it go in an outline.

Just a thought but when i was younger many moons ago i might have accidently smoked some funny cigarettes. the laid back posture does look slightly familiar to me...... :-)
