I’m planning to get together a travel first aid kit to keep in the lorry instead of having to grab bits and pieces every time I go somewhere.

What are your essentials to take with you, or can anyone recommend a suitable mini kit I can buy online?

Betadine spray, gloves, clean face washer, small tupperware tub, cotton wool, melonin dressing, animalintex, cohesive bandages, scissors, alcohol swabs, wound ointment, saline, hoof pick.

I just keep mine in one of the fabric first aid bags you can get on amazon and take it with me when we go out in the trailer, easier than having 2 😂

I personally don't find the premade first aid kits that good. I don't have everything everyone has mentioned so far, I go for:

Bute, animalintex, vet wrap, wound powder, silver cream, cleaning spray, vaseline, sudocrem (don't love it but it's great for a barrier), cooling gel, wraps and bandages, cooling wraps that are activated with water. I'm sure I've got some other things as well 🤔

I need to add some cotton wool.

I just have a general purpose human/animal one. It contains bandages, sudocrem/disinfectant spray, all the usual human stuff (plasters and qauzes etc). To be honest anything more than that I'd be asking the vet to attend in situ. Cooling wrap is a good shout, though. Might add that!

Asking out of genuine interest and realise I’m probably being really dim here so apologies in advance but how would you administer the bute if needed? Do you take an empty syringe and water?

I do have empty syringes in first aid kit. Always take a chaff based feed for post competition sloppy mash to ensure they hydrate before travelling home so could add bute to it if needed.

I’ve always tended to have a decent human fist aid kit, supplemented with a few horsey bits- vetwrap etc. has anyone come across a really good pre-made horse first aid kit?

Hoof pick!!, bailing twine (have had the twine I tie the haynet snap on an outing before), duct tape, spare headcollar (incase one snaps), sudocreme, scissors, cotton pads and a human first aid kit from amazon ( was about 22£ tends to have good stuff than can be used on horses too). Not first aid, but I also keep a car jack, WD40 and spare trailer bulbs..

Thanks all, some really helpful suggestions there, including stuff I probably wouldn’t have thought about otherwise. The human first aid kit is a good shout too so I’ve ordered one of those.
