What are your winter clothing must-haves?

Oh...and muckboots. All last winter I would wear them with normal socks and be fine...even walking dogs in snow for a few hours, when people on the yard would have welly socks and thermal socks on and moan constantly.

Off to ebay to check those muckboots! :)

I have had mine for 20 months and they need replacing now as the rubber has split across the foot in a few places BUT...I am in them 7 days a week, for between 6-10 hours a day including riding ( I got the longer riding ones), all yard duties and epic dog walking. For the £84 outlay, well worth it :-)

My muckboots only lasted one winter, but my they were warm. I loved them. Don't know if I will get them again or look for something longer lasting though.

I'd have to find the muckboots first, no idea where they are now! lol. They're around somewhere though, mine went on the neoprene, on a bend.

Thermals as a base layer, then as many layers of thin fleece as need, topped of by coat and if wet my long water proof riding coat and then if out with ponies a workmans high viz, then I wonder why my daughters dis own me, better a warm Mum than a cold grumpy one. :)

Thermals thermals thermals! Get layered up.oo and a nice furry deer stalker hat, think that's what they're called, you know the hat with the ear flaps. Picked up one from matalan mens bit, furry inside, waterproof on the out. Ideal.

Yes absolutely agree! If you're warm from the inside out, and have a warm head, you'll feel a lot better. Apparently you can lose 25% of body head through your head.

Also, for me, waterproof trousers are an essential. But I got mine from a camping/outdoor place - they're made of a special waterproof material (sorry can't remember the name of it but the military use them apparently) which keeps you bone-dry but doesn't make you sweat up inside and you end up getting soaking wet anyway. I think you feel so much better if you're out in the rain but your legs are dry.

Also a "must have" are my thermal pull-on jods, Musto I think they are. If it gets cold I'll put them on and then just LIVE in them till the spring.

A good base layer
A buff
Silk glove liners
A decent waterproof (love my paramo coat)
Cheap muckers from aldi (warm and grippy in snow)
I never wear hats my hair keeps my head warm in all but the coldest weather

Under Armour (short or long sleeve) top for base layer - can't recommend this stuff enough and wear for riding in any weather as well.
Snugpak softie (can pick them up reasonably cheap off the bay).
Decent pair of waterproofed and neoprene lined boots.
