What bad habits do you have when you ride ie position

Heels not down far enough and my hands having a mind of their own and tipping sideways :o

Instructor is always yelling 'THUMBS' at me :o

Ooops :p

Oh and not lifting into canter :o I drive into it but I am getting better though :D

With me it is more of a confidence thing.

Since my accident 2 years ago I have a bit of a fear factor.

My instructor though is great and pushes me.

For instance I started off on the lunge....got myself into the safety zone of "oh I'll be quite happy on this for a month to get everything 100% perfect. Nope after three sessions he started to neglect to bring the lunge in.

Everything going ok in Walk me thinking "great I can think about going into trot when I get back from holiday....no chance the immportal line "ok now do it in trot" was uttered on Thursday...the exchange was thus;

me: "You are bloody joking?"

Him: "nope"

Me: "I thought we could leave trot till I came back from holidays"

Him: "Yep I know now trot"

Me: "whats on the agenda for next week 3 hours in the bloody forest"

Him: "don't tempt me".

So we trotted, and I am still alive and so is the horse.

Bloody Man!

I look down waaay too much. I am very aware of this and am currently making a concerted effort to concentrate on something high up in the distance at all times!! It is improving but its hard breaking a bad habit!! I also need to flex my elbows a bit more and stop folding so much when jumping.....it'd be boring if we were all perfect though :D

I stop breathing! My insturctor will yell 'BREATH' and as I go to shout back 'I BL@@DY AM BREATHING' I realise i'm not!

Another one with 'flat' hands I'm ashamed to say.

My left shoulder rises when I'm schooling and I tilt my head. :o

And everyone on my yard will tell you they worry about my inability to do up the girth properly! :D

I cant seem to fold properly when jumping anymore...no idea why
My hands always seem to turn in
I tilt my head to the left a lot and i look down a lot
My heels creep up occasionally

WAY too many things!!

My head goes wonky.... o.o I *look* like I'm looking down/back while my eyes are looking straight ahead, but by head isn't! Oops.... I also tip forwards randomly, my right leg slips back, my left hand wanders randomly, I use my heels in walk rather than my legs which tips my toes down, I don't keep my shoulders back...
and when I jump, I do strange things with my hips for no apparent reason which makes them wonky and leads to poles going everywhere, and I look back (again, with my head, but not my eyes, wtf!?)

:p

My naughty inside hand tends to get fixed rather than being nice and soft. I know I do it but I can't stop myself! And I tip forward when I ask for canter. I've always done it but when I'm having regular lessons it goes away. Which means I should be able to stop myself doing it on my own as I'm quite capable of sitting on my bottom but somehow it always comes back.

I've had the same faults for 15 years and I'm powerless to stop myself!

I move in the seat too much i.e. when walking I cant sit still. Also tend to think reins are like handlebars, have washing line reins, dont sit deep into saddle in canter, tend to look down when riding and lastly my legs wander too far back.

Any ideas how to correct them??

:D

There is a reason there are no photos shown in public of me on a horse;)

Moi non plus!!!!

My worstest habit is daily plan for murdering my husband. I now discuss this with myself so often and so loud I think I am for the funny farm.

I shouldn't worry until the day your horse answers back...

I have open hands-I can never seem to close them in around the reins. An they're kind of sideways-not the 'holding a mug o tea' position. and they're kind of low. Damn hands!! everytime I try to sort it it feels unatural and they creep back to their sideways open lowness again Doh!!

I think I have pathetic lower leg positions -it just doesn't stay!!! I might ask my RI (also YO) (as suggested on here!) that she ties my legs to the girth or something to keep them steady...
And I've been told I have a very "defensive" riding position - I'm schooling my YO's ID mare who LOVES to jump and tends to 'hell for leather' it towards the jump and I immediately go forwards - which I MUST not do!! :o But YO has same problem so she knows the best way to correct it

Heels up! Resulting in foot being right in stirrups. I also look down over poles - but not so much over jumps bizarrely.
