Just something that's come up in conversation this week - What type of bedding do you use (inc brand of shavings etc) and how much do you pay per bale?
Just wondering if there's a big variation throughout the country.
Thanks!

Oh and H is on farm produced straw

I use big bale (£20 each) for one of mine, and my other one is on the chopped rape straw (Bliss) bedding which I think is £6.58 a bale. We are surrey.

One is on straw at £1 a bale and I use about six bales a month, the other is on Megazorb with Hunter shavings on top, I use a bag of Megazorb (£5.85) and a bag of Hunters (£7.90) a month and semi-deep litter taking out the wet every two to three weeks. I should mention that they are in for around 9 hours at the moment.

I use straw (although my latest delivery is basicly hay rather than straw

)
I have half a big bale at £15 - lasts around 3 weeks.
Over the holidays I used Hemcore and paid around £7.50 (inc vat) per bale.

(Straw priced in Nottingham, Hemcore in Yorkshire)

Straw, £1 a bale.
Was using shavings from Scats at something like £8/9 a bale and decided it was ridiculous to be paying that much for every night she gets stabled (as she is so messy and needs such a deep bed to encourage her to lie down, that I have to put in a bale after every time I muck out... luckily not in every night!)
I was going to try something like Aubiose but TBH I think she'd eat it

Both mine are on Hunters at the moment at £7.95 per bale but the big lad is going over to wood pellets which are £290 per pallet of 66 delivered inc.

Between the two Im using 3 bags of Hunters a week. One is out all day and in at night and the other is out for 2 hours then in the rest of the time. Both are on mats and have deep beds and big banks, mucked and wetted daily.

Hi everyone!

Just moved over from shavings to Aquamax and so far so good! Very dirty ID only needs one bag a wk @ £6.40 in Derbys

Big bale oat straw at £10 a bale. I use about a bale a fortnight for my two but I could make it do longer if I wasn't so fussy about beds!

I use different brands, i most often buy the local feed merchants own brand of shavings, the average cost per bale is 7.50-8.50
I dont use it much though as my mare lives out most of the time

we use easibed normally which is fantastic and i remove the wet every two weeks.
however, can't get hold of anymore easibed atm so have had to go onto bliss - its ok but smells
absolutely awful when you open the bag!

i currently use 1-2bales per week of bedding
i think bliss is around 6.20 and easibed around 7.50 thought i think we will go back onto easibed when
they come back into stock.

I use Aquamax and love the stuff. Was going to switch to straw to save money but my girl kept eating it so............ back to the Aquamax. Price per bale in Essex is about 6.80

We use shavings and straw.
Shavings we buy by the arctic load from Holland - rung them today and they have gone up £1.50 a bale since our last load in early December. More going on straw then!!

I use straw on rubber mats at the moment - small bales at £2 a bale. Was shocked when I went in the feed merchants today to see that shavings were £9.95 a bale!

Is that a national record - can anyone top that!?
