I currently use Hemcore - Although over winter it was great. Didnt smell. stable smelt clean 24/7. However, I have brought some bales over summer and only used a lil bit and it is SOOOOO DUSTY. even when we hose it down before the horses go in.

Hemcore is currently 9 a bale.

what do you use.

Has anyone used pellets? if so how much are they

Pellets vary quite a bit, I think we paid £2.50 a bag, this was cost [ pallet load delivered], three bags per week unless very clean horse., I am going to try to buy some at an auction this week, they sell in small lots, and I hope they will be cheaper, I assume normal people buy them to burn in a wood burning stove or something.

Mats and a decent deep bed of Sundown Red which is a mix of shavings and straw, treated with a lemongrass type smell. £6 a bale and really economic, quick bed to do, 1 bale a week, poo taken out daily and wet once a week.

I use a product called Arden safe mix, about £5 a bale and really liked it xx

I loved this stuff! My local feed place stopped selling it though so cant get it now :-(
Last winter i made my own! its shavings mixed with wood chip which makes for a less fluffy slightly more solid bed- great as poo stays on top better!

I use big flake shavings, can get them for £6 a bag, they're like bedmax and are very clean, no dust. don't like to spend too much on bedding as it just ends up on the muck heap and the stables are portable ones just sitting on the grass so can get dirty quick
spend too much on bedding

Straw which I use as deep litter, pay £2.00 for really big bales that are not dusty.
Bought 100 bales in January and still have 50 left between 3 horses, they absorb really well and do not smell.
Tried shavings, dont like them and it`s a back breaker trying to clean out deep litter shavings, the straw has started to rot down when I do a full clean out (every 12 weeks) so I find it a lot easier.
Plus it keeps them warm.

I use 'Nedz Bedz' which is chopped dust extracted straw. Costs £7.50 a bale, use one bale per week in summer and 2 in winter. Mucks out like shavings but I find it more absorbent

Have used straw, shavings, easibed and aubiose in the past. Hate straw as he so wet on it. Like all others but gets expensive. Currently on wood pellets which are good but get very dusty in summer. Going to trial some shavings that others on yard using at 7 pound a tonne so fingers crossed they work

hemcore went bust at the beginning of the year so i imagine supplies of it will begetting low now. I was using a mix of bliss and bedmax but i am going to try my lad on oat straw this year.

Shavings during the summer as my horses live out and I just put down a 'day bed' for them if they come in during the day for a couple of hours. During the winter, we use wood pellets as they are easy to muck out, less time consuming and very absorbent. We also have rubber matting.

we use wood pellets - bought from PLQ last year, and corley this year. Buying 2 pallets at a time is best value for us, works out at £2.60 a bag - we use 2 bags a week per horse in winter and nothing in the summer as they're out. Tom is the wettest smelliest horse alive and even he can't manage to trash wood pellets!

I use rubber mats and a deep bed of wood chips, I have struggled for years to find a good bedding for my messy boy and also have a bed that does not move too much when he does.
I pay £3 per bale for the wood chips from a local supplier because its bigger pieces than shavings it lets the wet through to the lower finer particles its great stuff. been using it now for 6 months and no problems or bald spots in Dens bed.
