Shavings/sawdust on mats. Coudn't vote on price as you don't have 'Free'
I collect it in those big square bags they deliver sand in (metre cubed?) and one bag lasts me about ten days. Bear in mind it is not compressed like bales are.
Wood pellets - one has laminitis so no straw for her and the other is a minger so much easier to manage on pellets. With shavings between 6 - 8 quid a bale versus 2.34 a bag of pellets its no contest.
Wood pellets which I used for the first time last year from LWP, so pleased with them have had 4 tonne delivered but from my local feed merchant this time in loose bags and at a great price too!
Shavings on matting. As she is an older horse, I give her a good deep bed. Shavings are £6.90 per bale and I use one per week. They are lovely quality. Smell really fresh and clean and no dust!
I chose 'other'. I deep litter, mainly using straw but I use Aubiose as a 'base' layer. It really works for me as I can have a very deep, warm bed (I have to step up onto it
) but the Aubiose absorbs more than just straw would and the bed remains very stable because it is so deep - my chap is prone to box-walking and weaving, so it works out great.
My horse is a very, very mucky chap but this way means that I just take out th base once a week and take out any small sections of dirty straw daily.
I pay £10 for a big bale of sraw, that lasts about 8 weeks and about £8 for a bale of Aubiose, I use about 2 a week.
Farra and Chancer are on stablelite rubber matting with half beds.
Farra will start on megazorb as I have some left and then join Chancer on LWP which I am trying this year as I need a bed that stays put and is very good at soaking up piddle.
Will be interesting to see how it compares to megazorb but it is half the price which will help the pocket.
