What bedding is best and worst for feather mites?

They pick up the mites from outside rather than inside the stables!

My friends 24/7 hairy cob lives outside totally as he trashes stables unless they are made of cast iron!!!

She has the vet give an injection (which is really for cattle) but used for horses too, and that sorts it out

Try using Neem oil for feather mites.

Red mites in chickens are notoriously difficult to get rid of, worse I would say than feather mite and I dunked all my birds in Neem and sprayed the houses with the same and they have remained mite free.

Word of warning, it does stink like mad but the smell wears off but the effect last for quite some time.

Where can we buy Neem oil from? I've had the injection done twice now since January, and still they come back. We've got no chickens around us so god knows where he's getting them from 

I agree - try Neem
You can get it from a company called Neem Genie, they have a product called Neem Aid - £14.50 for a bottle that you dilute (makes gallons !!! ) useful for all sorts of conditions

Straw seems to set our cob's mites off like crazy. He's on shavings and the mites are managed by keepng the feathers short and the odd shampoo. Use front line spray if I see him itching or stamping his feet.
