What bit do you ride your horse in?

Myler mullen mouth hanging cheek for schooling and hacking alone.
Waterford hanging cheek for hacking in company.
Waterford dutch gag for exciting stuff like beach rides and for jumping, (although he probably won't do that again

). We have two reins - top and bottom and usually have the bottom tied in a knot on his neck,only for use in emergencies! This doesn't work for jumping as don't have time so two reins all the time for that. He has a massive tongue and hates jointed and even lozenged bits so the waterford suits him.
 
TB mare: fulmer snaffle with french link for hacking/hunting, sometimes loose ring french link for dressage

C: kineton/dr bristol or double bridle for normal, but must try something a lot stronger! considering dexter bit for hunting

Pony: Hanging cheek waterford for everything

Other TB mare: loose ring gold french link for everything

She was become very rude when I took a half halt, and then I realised she doesnt like the flat french link squeezing her tongue when you take a contact, hence the head throwing. As she has a tiny mouth a I didn't have any other tiny bits at the time, I brought some latex bandage instead (at about £4 a pop) which cushioned the action of the french link, but gave me a nathe type bit with some movement! It works really well, and she loves it! But unfortunately "modified" dressage legal bits are no longer dressage legal

Ah, so you have a regular french link mouthpiece? I thought you might have the low port comfort snaffle which only has a tiny bit of movement inwards, from the rings, if you see what I mean. Tried PF in one today and she didn't seem too impressed. Gutted! Course, she did have the day off yesterday, so perhaps she was just feeling a bit too lively

PF is usually in a loose ring french link for everything, but I'm trying something else for a bit. Antifaz is in a short shank myler combination with the comfort snaffle mouthpiece (what a lot of words!) for jumping and a hanging cheek french link for flatwork. Or he would be if my boss gave it blinking back!

Yep just the french link. I am not normally a fan of mylers at all, but I like the curved shape of the french link, and wanted D rings... the comfort snaffle I personally find makes horses a bit "wooden"

Interesting you should say that; I bought my combination bit ages ago for PF and she and I both hated it; no brakes OR steering. Tried it on A as a last resort recently and he just loves it. SOOOO, I got another myler; one with a low port snaffle to try on PF who can be fussy in her mouth, and I was surprised at how rigid it is. PF so far seems happier in the regular french link, but perhaps A will like it for flat work

I have a loose ring waterford/full cheek copper mouth with lozenge for schooling/jumping. Then have a NS universal for jumping outside, hacking.

At the moment (he is just coming back into work and hasnt hacked for months due to box rest etc) I am hacking in both a NS univeral and Dr cooks Bitless

sounds mad, but with two sets of reins works a treat with Pickle. As he goes nuts if you over do the bitting.

Is it a neue schule? They seem incredibly expensive! I've looked and looked at them and I can't see how they're that different to other bits on the market. Is it the material they're made of that makes them special?

ETS: My mistake, it's the Sprenger KK bits that are really really expensive

Sprenger KK Ultra for every day, hacking and schooling. We used to use a Myler Combination but she fought against it all the time, we have used a Waterford which is good for the beginning on the stubble season as we have some brakes! The last bit we used was a loose ring french link but brake failure was becoming far too common for my liking

She seems to like the KK and have brakes most of the time!!
