What bit do you use.. and more imp - why??

Plastic eggbutt. It's a bradoon because the snaffle is a bit chunky for his little mouth.

Noseband is just a cavesson or crank but always done up loose.

I don't really have a problem with stronger bits as long as people acknowledge how harsh they are and use them accordingly (eg not try and work forward into a contact in a massive leverage bit).

I also don't really get schooling in gadgets - a, horse tends to revert to normal as soon as it's taken off, and b, it's usually not working over its back, just tucking it's head in. Of course it's sometimes justified but it really would be a last resort from me. (And my horse used to be a giraffe!)

I haven't got anything against then but I find must horses go better in something else. Lots of horses go well in a straight bar snaffle, but it's a little used bit these days.

I have my thick tongued fleshy mouthed cob in a NS verbindend, because he really needs a big port. It's a very clever bit, a double jointed a snaffle that when in use creates a big port and relieves the tongue pressure. It's also BD legal, which ported bits aren't.

Actually only his leather dressage bridle has the NS on it, the day to day plastic bridle has an identical Jeffries copy that cost less than half the price on it.

Mine goes well in a mullen mouth but I find it harder to get him to relax his poll - he tilts his head in it a bit in shoulder in/10m circles. I don't think the bendy plastic ones are allowed for dressage.

He is in an evil nutcracker bit and likes it more than the french link. For people whose horses don't like too many joints but who worry about the nutcracker effect, I have had good results with the sprenger Novocontact.
