I have just bought a Connemara !WOOO!:) very excited.

I was just wondering what type of bit all you other Connie owners use on your ponies??

My mare is currently in a french link, although she goes ok i feel she would be better in a different bit!! She is a very athletic type.

We have our Connie boy in a loose ring straight bar nathe. We find he goes much better in a soft bit. But each horse is different!! Have fun with yours, ours has the most amazing nature.

Connie's do tend to have a low palette (roof of mouth) so often don't do well with a single jointed bit. Mine went best in a french link..:)

We have struggled with our connie he is really sensitive but also strong. Had him in a loose ring french link but was running through it, so changed him to the neue schule starter bit but he was still poking his nose so now trying him in the neue schule trans angled lozenge bit which he seems to be going better in.

Egg butt snaffle. However she is strong when jumping at competitions so will need to look into a diff bit for when we go out.

NS hanging cheek for my Conny x tb mare. I've had her in alsorts though, and trying to move her from bitted to bit less due to growing melanomas in her mouth.

Mine's most settled in a double. Hates pelhams and anything with a double link. He's an odd bod. If yours is happy- there's no point changing!

Thanks for all the comments guys....quite a wide range of different bits, so i guess it will be a little trial and error with her!!

Kerrieberry2 and Starryeyed - i was just looking for others opinions. As i said she goes ok...but not great in her current bit, she munches a lot on her bit and a carries her head quite high in trot and doesnt seem to want to accept a contact however this could be a training issue and i did say she is new and i dont yet know her very well but thought it would help to get others opinions.

I find my lad jumps best in a proper French link Wilkie and also goes nicely on the flat in a moon link loose ring Pelham or if doig COmp pony classes, a hanging cheek French link. For everyday we hack in a Kimblewick as he is quite strong. Blimey sounds like a bit bank!

Have you stolen mine ginageo? She also hates double jointed bits & pelhams, but loves a double. Mines actually x tb but mainly resembles a full connie. Eggbutt snaffle only these days, we don't really compete or hunt anymore. Used to wear a double for dressage/some schooling & hunting. Dutch gag for any decent jumping. Eggbutt snaffle the rest of the time.

My lad is in a Wilkie show snaffle. Very thin mouth piece to accommodate the low palate and he goes very well in it and mouths beautifully. I got it from Fylde saddlery online. Loop ring snaffles are only slightly different and a lot cheaper but not too sure how the action differs. I only know because I have the real Wilkie and my friend has the loop ring :) the top loop is on the inside of a loop ring and the outside of the Wilkie

Mine is good with a lozenge, ns loose ring snaffle for everyday, ns Nelson gag for jumping and fast work. Sensitive mouth but can pull like a steam train :)

Nueue schuele team up- loose ring with a lozenge. That's normally all he needs, he also goes in a double bridle.
