Hi all
Currently in a ns trans angled lozenge, but don't feel he is totally happy, needs a flash on as try to get tongue over bit.
Any suggestions? It needs to be dressage legal.
Thanks

Not much help as still looking!

Tried ns team up - ok my girl doesn't like any tongue pressure though, so loose ring no good,
Tried myler - hated with a passion
Tried kk sprenger - ok in hanging cheek, not as good loose ring
Tried nathe -ok
Tried bog standard Mullen hanging cheek - not enough room
Tried French link eggbutt - ok still not really happy
Ok in bomber however not legal

Tried micklem bridle - better

Was better in a drop noseband as also held bit up

I reckon something with fixed ring (full cheek or hanging cheek to hold bit up) and poss a drop?

So much trial and error!

I bought mine on ebay, you can always sell it on if it doesn't work.

Sizewise they are more generous than the neue schule, so mine takes 5 3/4 in NS but 5 1/2 in Myler.

I am very tempted to try a drop rather than the flash as Im not sure if it is the bit or the flash which he objects to.
Need to find a cheap drop to try really i think before swapping bits.
Sounds like you have had a mad time!

Having had two fat tongued individuals, i found that both appreciated the hanging cheek, NS, the thinnest (think 14mm) that is available.

Worth a try :)

Thanks. Our old instructor recommended a thinner mouth piece. If a drop doesn't do it i will try this as i do like the ns bits and its the one he likes most so far! Thanks

Mine had a KK ultra snaffle, but went better in a plain french link. Tried the myler comfort snaffle which was 'ok', but the best is a Dick Christian rip off! He goes miles better in it, and he is very fussy in his moutth (won't have a flash etc etc)

Have tried single joint loose ring as that's what he came with. Also tried a double jointed version.
One thing haven't tried so far is a fixed cheek- do we think this would be better or worse for a horse like that? Im tempted with the hanging cheek as do know a couple of ex racers who are ridden in them happily.

My old tb had v similar problem he went best in a basic french link hanging cheek snaffle with a drop rather than a flash.
Recommend you try that combination - mine hated the bit moving too much, and as it was relatively thin there was pleanty of space.

My mare has a very fleshy tongue and I tried everything before settling on a NS loose ring with a Verbindend mouthpiece, they say it creates a channel for the tongue. Not sure exactly how it works but it made a massive difference to her straight away.

Id try a cheap full cheek French link with keepers on. It will keep the bit off the tongue and keep the mouthpiece steady. My mare hates tongue pressure, and this works well, as does a D ring Myler French link, as its curved with tiny joints, but not sure you can get them easily in a fixed cheek in bigger then 4.5"!!

After trial and error my small mouthed fleshy tongued exracehorse was happiest in a Korsteel J.P Jointed loose ring snaffle. It is shaped perfectly to lie over the tongue and is quite thin too. Not too expensive either. You can order them on line.

Ports aren't dressage legal ;)

Didn't really explain it well.

Mine is MB02 comfort snaffle and it is dressage legal. It's not really a port more an angle, the whole shape of the mouthpieces is angled so it curves above and around the tongue so no pressure. It has a roller over the join so there is nothing to pinch.

It looks straight in pictures but when you pick it up and see it in three dimensions the whole mouthpiece curves up.
