Going on my first hunt soon with the yard folk. Its my horses first time hunting but its a local meet, we'll be at the back and they don't go crazy.

Currently in a neue schule loose ring snaffle with a flash. He has a soft mouth but his neck is his strength and he just leans onto the contact and tries to bog off. Definitely need something stronger, the last funride I done my arms were killing where he grabs the bit, leans and tries to run off.

Please no 'school him' when it comes to lots of other horses and open fields he'll always be fruity.

Thinking a waterford 2 ring gag? Nothing to expensive please. Thank you

I would agree waterford gag, thats what i use when i hunt my two as they are bit grabbers and leaners. With the gag you have the option to pop it down a ring or use roundings/double reins for reinforcements should you need too :-)
Have fun!

Just make sure you have ridden in it first. If the bit is too strong the horse can rear or find another evasion. You're going from a fairly soft bit in a straight jump to something potentially quite strong (although any bit is only as harsh as the hands which hold it). If you have tolerable control and so no immediate need for urgent brakes I would personally try to step up a little more gently - perhaps to a hanging cheek?

Thank you, I've done plenty of funrides in a french link gag previously and he always tries to lea on it and bombed off when he felt like it, if you drop the reins he also bombs off so hes a clever chap. The hanging cheek wouldn't be enough.
I am going to borrow a friends waterford snaffle first see how we go, going to go in a open field Saturday afternoon and see what kind of control we have. If thats not enough i'll get a gag and use 2 reins. :)
