my pony is very strong and i hack out in a dutch gag on the snaffle ring and jump him and do pc rallies on the middle ring
but for fun rides i have him in a pelham
when tried bottom ring gagat pc he was a bit naugty and he seems to prefer jumping in his gag and is going nicely in it
so or our first xc schooling session do you thing pelham or gag?

thanks everyone xx

they have very different actions.... if your horse leans on the forehand id stick with the gag as it will 'lift' but the pelham does the opposite.

well thats a tricky questtion as he does anything to get his way
his fave trick and most deadly is puttinghis head between his knees just before h lands and i flip off the front also he chucks his head up if he wants to go

do you have difficulty 'lifting' him before jumps? tbh from the sounds of things id prob stick with the gag if he is happy in it and a running martingale that will only come into play if he lifts his head past a certain point to evade. out of interest, why do you choose the pelham for pleasure rides?

he gts quite strong before a jump sometimes
i always wear a running martingale which does seem to help him a bit :)
i use a pelham on fun rides because when he goes he really goes and is very hard to stop especially when he tries to gallop and eat at the same time - very scary!!

Well if he goes better in gag then gag but if he doesn't stop in gag and only pelham then pelham!!

I think it would be worth riding him in pelham this week and jumping him in it and seeing how he goes.

As from what i have seen he a lot easier to stop in a pelham and you will be in big open fields when doing XC!! x
