My cob is currently in a hanging cheek. Theres certain times im finding him quite strong and I want him to start accepting contact but the hanging cheek isnt really helping him do this, Ive been recommended a 2 ring happy mouth gag or a wilkie/ bevel snaffle, anyone got any suggestions?

A harsher bit isn't going to make him accept the contact, unless you want his head in and aren't bothered about what his backend is doing.

Lots of transitions and circles will help.

If you want to try something else you can always change to something different without it being more harsh.

Stubbon control snaffle, gentle when needed but when needed a little extra but agree schooling

Completely agree with all said but might also be worth trying a bit balm? I use one all the time and my strong warmblood really enjoys!

If you message me I can send you a link but don't want to be accused of advertising!!

I agree with SpringArising and if he was mine, i would be checking his saddle and getting a good physiotherapist or body worker type out, to make sure he isn't strong through pain or discomfort :)

I agree with not going and harsher and schooling. Have you tried a bit with copper in it because that stopped my made leaning in the bit. She does feoth at the mouth sucking on it though

If he's strong when he's leaning, maybe try a waterford, but this probably wont help him accept it. A hanging cheek is quite fixed so doesnt allow much movement in the mouth so it can be harder to get a less subtle horse in a contact, and can encourage them to lean. For this, I'd try a loose ring snaffle. And, as above, a copper mouthpiece, or one with warm metal, will help him accept the bit and may also stop him leaning. I find a happy mouth stops my mare leaning a little bit too. :)
