What bit of advice from HHO members

My best wasn't really advice more a wake up call

i read a thread by lovely Wimbles about her difficult horse and then moving on to her lovely mare KoKo

and made made me relies i could keep my TB he frightened me and no matter how much i loved him, it wasn't fair to him or my self (or my poor husband who had to deal with me after a bad day)

so i sold him to a person who has had him out at local shows, and is now getting him fit for hunting

and me? well i have a lovely new cob coming on Sunday

after 4 years of battling, crying, a lot of blood and sweat and i don't even no how much £££ i finally left a weight had gone

don't get me wrong my Tb will always be dear to me, he was at our wedding! but he and him just couldn't click on the ridding front and then he become difficult to handle

so it wasn't advice as such, but i am forever thankful to wimbles for her thread that helped me when i needed it most

That is a quote from my first RI. It was something she said to her riders quite often! It might have been in relation to letting horses 'talk' over a stable door (a massive 'no,no'), fidgeting in a line-up, or something ridden but it gave the rider the confidence that they could control the behaviour.

And it translates well into non-horsey life.
 
I can't recall one particular piece of advice but I have learned so much from this forum. Other than right at the start, I've not asked for a huge amount of advice (except recently for what to wear showing!) I've used it more as entertainment. That doesn't mean I haven't picked things up though. I joined intially because I was looking for help / answers about my horse's feet problems. That must be about 10 years ago now. I've since realised through years of reading things on here (and maybe just more experience generally) he was probably buted for the vetting and the seller saw me coming - a young girl on her own, buying her first horse. I'm 13 years older and wiser now and buying my next horse will be a very different experience, simply because I've read so many stories about purchases gone wrong, conformation threads, "help me look for my next horse" and "what would you look for in a horse" threads. It's opened my eyes to a lot of things, even though I've not really been actively looking for info on them.
