hi im not very clued up on bits as only ever rode in a snaffle. my cob mare has just been used as a plod until now shes 12yrs old and a ex driving pony, iv recently started doing some schooling with her and she is really not listening, shes not strong or silly out hacking or in the school but when i ask her to trot in school she trots but goes in her own direction if it makes sense, her teeth are fine and shes currently in a jointed snaffle, i dont want to use anything too strong as she is the most genuine pony in every way,

If she was driven then she is probably used to a straight bar, try a mullen mouth snaffle (shires do one) or for steering you could try a fulmer snaffle.

I'd change the joint and try either a straight bar as ddb has suggested or something with a link - either french link or lozenge :)

At least she's strong in the arena, not out hacking where you're in a safe environment
