Mini Shetland filly, just turned 3.
Was wondering what would be the best bit to ride her in. Currently in straight bar rubber bradoon for backing, but have a feeling she's going to be a bit of a handlful later on! I don't think i've ever seen a shetland with out a pelham, Any suggestions?

I think to stay in the rubber snaffle for a while would be best TBH. If she is strong at the moment, it is simply a schooling issue. How big is she? Are her riders likely to have good enough hands for somthing strong? LR and FR showing must be in snaffle bridles. I don't think its a good idea putting babies in stong bits.
You can get most bits in shetty size, what size is her mouth? we have had pelhams and doubles for showing, but all ours went in snaffles.

Thats better news thank you! She's only 8hh a real cutie but real sharp! Really didn't want to put anything harsh in there, but our last mini was an old boy and was only really a leadrein pony, used once in a blue moon! Bit size is looking at about 4" at the very most, her current bit is 3" and just fits, so could do with being a little bigger really.

You can get them that small all our (standard) shetties have been bigger, but we have got pelhams and double for 3'5" section A's. Some driving Minis I know that are 27" are driven in butterfly pelhams. I think alot of minis are sharp

All our used to go well in jointed snaffles, you can get really small ones, they were shown in hand when young in the straight bars and then once they started ridden work, eggbuts.

If the Shetty is only 3 then I really wouldnt worry about breaks at the moment, do plenty of long reining.
