ok, im about to bring my pony back into work after a 4 month break. we want to "rebreak" him. what bit should i put in him? we want to be gentle and kind with him- he is used to pelhams and gags, but he isnt really that strong unless you get into a huge open field (which we wont be doing for a while!). do you think i should put him in a snaffle? if so, what sort? because i feel that even if we cant get him jumping without blowing his brains, he may be able to pull off a nice-ish dressage test, as when he drops his head he looks quite striking and has the most amazing paces.

Its a bit pricey but have just (today) had the lady out from myler bit to find one for goggles who is very fussy and rarley give an even contact and have found one and was the 1st one we tried!! think its a 05 mouth piece with D's and cheeck so not legal for dressage but have found one thta similar for that!!! will try and find a pic

I have a neue schule 'training' or lozenge snaffle, its a loose ring french link, really like it and would recommend.

I would not recommend any thing strong, because its may cause problems in the future, such as cant find a stronger bit. I am not sure if you can ride a dressage test in a miler bit,but tbh i am not sure (i will ave a look for you) personally ride in a weak bit and normal snaffle, obviously he may be strong, seen as he has been out of work for 4 months. and once you are snaffle mouthed and you horse respects the bit, and you work together in riding, it gives your horse a sensitive mouth for the future and you may be able to reach yor full potentail, stay weak !!!!! good luck !!
