there's a girl on the yard who's birthday is coming up and i'd like to get her a book about bonding/groundwork/etc and wondered what you could suggest?

her pony is a typical mischievous pony, trying it on and taking the mick with her. she's tiny and has only had the pony a short while, he's now cowkicking and pulls away from her when leading him in. she's so sweet but needs to understand that telling the pony off will help in the long run but as it stands she doesn't want to shout/reprimand the pony incase she hurts him!

the pony knows this and she's slowly coming round to the thought that being firmer with him will get her the respect and help to keep her safe(r). hence why i am asking which book you would all suggest to help her but which is easy enough for her to follow and possibly make it fun for her so she doesn't have to keep asking people everytime she wants to do something (not that it's a problem just that i'm sure she would be happier being able to do a few things on her own.).

thanks in advance and lemon drizzle cake and can of lager for your help! :D

Don't know if its quite what you're looking for, but ice got The ABC of Breaking and Schooling Horses by Josephine Knowles and its good. It covers techniques for handling foals upto fully broken and schooled, explaining exactly how to do everything and why.

How old is she?

Perfect manners is good with basic info on psychology and a few exercises to work through. 101 horsemanship exercises is also v good and is a little more practical talking through each exercise in full. I've been using this book with great success to give my youngster a good start

50 shades of... Oh hang on :p

Same as other posters have said - prob cheap ones on eBay.

lol she MIGHT be a bit young for that sort of book although i'm sure her mum would enjoy reading it! lol

she's only 12yrs old and weighs about 4 stone, she is absolutely tiny.

thanks for the suggestions i will have a look around for it..........cheaper the better! :D

she loves this pony and that's part of the problem, she loves him so much that you can't even raise your voice to him without her getting upset/worried so she needs to see/read that you can be firm and the pony will actually have more respect for you than if you just do everything nicey nicey!
