What boots do you ride in day to day? Same as competition days?

I posted a few weeks ago about Ariat Grasmere sizing, as my competition boots are traditional leather ones, and I normally ride day to day in short boots and gaiters, but my feet have been freezing :(.

I tried on the Grasmeres today, but am not sure. They are a bulkier style than I was hoping for. They'd be fine for hacking but I don't think I'd want to school/jump in them. And of course they are ££££

Just wondered what anyone else rides in day to day - and more importantly are they warm :p

I ride in a pair of Mountain Horse Rider boots with suede half chaps. Fab fit, great yard boot and warm too! These are my 'everyday' boots. I ride in a pair of leather boots and gaiters for competing :)

Have you tried the Ariat Bromont insulated boots? I ride in them every day and they're really warm. I don't compete in them but they're smart enough if you look after them!

I ride in Ariat short boots everyday at home, but I only wear them to ride in.

To do jobs I wear thermal boots or wellies with thick socks.

I have different boots only used for comps :)

I've got Bromonts as well and have spent a lot of time in them lately as they are my warmest boots. I am paranoid though that I am going to ruin them using them day to day so I've just bought Mountain Horse Stella Polaris boots which are gorgeous and so warm. I've also got Tuffa Country Boots but these aren't particularly waterproof so I'll save them for summer!

Yes around the yard I use (incredibly ugly but who cares?!) Muck boots. They are warm, but I can't ride in them. My short boots are also Mountain Horse, but I don't find them warm at all. I think part of my problem is that I don't have an arena so mostly have to hack. Of course the colder it gets the more careful you have to be, so an hour and a half walking doesn't exactly get the blood pounding in to your feet

I did ask about the Bromonts today, but they didn't have them in stock. As I have skinny calfs I really need to try them on first.

I've got three pairs of boots.

My mucking out and messing about Mountain horse boots. My Petrie Anky's and my pride and joy, Lipica Polo boots! :D

Have you tried Ariat Conistons, they are much sturdier than the Grassmeres & neater, slightly comfier & just as warm. I find the Grassmeres too floppy for schooling.

I wear my old competition jod boots, which are ariats - and going strong after 7 years!!

Then wear cheapy half chaps with them :)

I've got really skinny legs and they're the only boots that fit me properly and don't look like wellies on me!

Amy - the Polaris do look warm! But looking at the measurements, I think they'd be too wide for my sparrow legs :(

Zij - those are lush! But perhaps not the warmest for -3 degrees hacking ;)

Nic - no, will go and have a look. Agree that the Grasmeres didn't seem like they'd be suitable for any riding that took more than a gentle nudge with the leg. Which does not describe schooling my girls

Ariat Bromont insulated boots, they are lovely and clean up really well for competing. In fact I love them so much hubby got me the chocolate ones for Christmas :D

Even though i thought i would never want to get them mucky when i bought them, i just use my Dubarrys for everything!

They are flexible so comfy to ride in, they have good treads so good grip (great for me especially with all this ice! :p) and they just seem to cope with everything!

Just put a thick pair of socks on when its really cold and my feet stay warm and dry all day, even when hacking :D

But for competing i have got some De Niros, they're fab!

Ooooh have just discovered you can get the Bromonts in short boots :). This may be better as then I can ride in my ski socks with long Musto chaps over the top for cold hacking; or "dress them up" with gaiters for posher outings :p.

The other option I had thought of were Mark Todd Cook boots; but again would need to try them on first.

Am jealous of some of the lovely competition boots you all have though!

Same here and my Bromonts fit like a glove. Best everyday boot's I've ever had and I'd have to be bribed very heavily to wear anything else! Never had a moment's cold feet in them either.

I use the Equitector short boots for at home and don't wear chaps or anything over (I do have knee length socks over my breeches though :)) Extremely warm and hardy.

Could never justify having really expensive boots for at home and also I like going to my long boots for comps as they feel extra grippy for my calves.

I've ridden in Grasmeres for day to day schooling, hacking for the last 4 years until they died!, keep my feet warm, and at first although they did seem bulkier than my DeNiro's or Ariat Devon Pro's, I did get used to them. I've now bought a pair of Ariat Glacier Tall boots which are basically the same(maybe a bit taller) but made of all leather rather than Suede like the Grasmeres, they too are lovely and warm and fab for working around the yard and riding in! They feel a bit more fitted because of the leather I think.

I ride in brown Petries at home, and in black Petries at shows. However the black ones were bought off the shelf (not made to measure like the brown ones) and I can definitely feel a difference! They were also a different, cheaper model.

Therefore, as soon as I can afford them I will buy a new pair of competition boots, identical to the brown ones.

Now I have too much choice! So options are Bromont short, bromont Tall, Coniston or Glacier!

Anyone want to decide for me? ;)

Halfstep it's interesting you mention feel. I definitely find my comp boots very stiff in comparison. They are about 18 years old so it's not exactly that they aren't broken in.

Ive just treated myslf to a pair of Ariat Conniston.

I love them. The Grassmeres were too big as I have skinny calves but the Conniston are really snug.

Happy to school and hack in them.

And its a bonus not having to change out of wellies into my Ariat Bromonts, which Im going to keep for competitions now.

I have a bit of a collection! For comfort and warmth and grip my favourites are my dubarrys but I am trying to preserve this pair, as the last pair died within 2 years, so I try not to muck out in them or wear them every day as our yard is filthy. I have some new toggi mucker boots lined with thinsulate that I now wear on trips to yard that are chores only.
For riding I have:
Short Ariat H2O boots with ariat gaiters which I love, and are pretty durable and warm and comfy to walk/work in, and give enough 'feel' to school
Long mark todd fleece lined boots, great for riding esp cold hacks but not waterproof for on the yard
Long smart mark todd field boots - only usually appear for lessons in summer/the odd showing class! (an ebay bargain!)

Then to compete I use mountain horse short smart boots - windsor I think? And sergio gaiters.
