Hey!

Oscar is rising two and I want to buy him his first set of boots. We lead out in-hand between 1-3 times a week so I just want some support for his legs when doing road work. He isn't stumbly but ocasionally will jump slightly (not more than half a foot, usually toward the safety of his mummy :) ) and I am scared he will catch one hoof on the opposite leg! We will soon be doing some spook training and long reining and I would be happier if his legs were protected!

I have looked at all sorts of boot particularly like the equilibrium allsport boots as they are very lightweight and breathable. Has anyone got these/had them and do you have any comments good or bad? Before i spend £80 on two pairs lol

He would be ok with just plain brushing boots however I feel they sometimes make the legs sweaty and fear if over heated tendons are put under more stress? Correct me if i'm wrong?

Any other recommendations appreciated :)

Hi - I've always used Woof boots on my horses for general hacking, schooling etc and found them to offer good protection, fit well and wash up brilliantly. With a two year old who is only walking out in hand, you really don't need to worry about over heating in tendons - infact, I wouldn't be worrying about this unless they are doing a fair amount of fast work and if that was the case I would be looking at a more high performance boot anyway. Hope that helps.
 
The only thing that worries me about these is I had a pair for my old girl. And when we came back from any hacks in which we had trotted she would be really sweaty underneth, is this normal/ok? If it is i just have the hard task of picking colours lol
 
I'm not a fan of putting boots on unless there's a reason for it and don't use boots on Coco, as he has no shoes on. I do use WW brushing boots for travelling but to date that's about it.
Having said that, I am going to get some Westropp boots with knee boots built in for him. He is downhill & I worry about him stumbling, so want to be sure he is protected.
You might want to think about those for yours - don't know if they are any good mind you..... Shall report back after I've given them a try.
 
I have used woof boots (prefer the 4/5 strap or the double velcro not the cheapo 2 strap) and equilibrium trizone (the ones in black and grey and white multi colour). Both types are good quality and offer good protection. However as I am in Cyprus they do cause sweating underneath in summer so then I use bandages instead. Recently I prefer the bandages as they cover the legs better, there is no sweating and the sand doesn't get in. Also I need to sell the horse later this year she needs to be used to all sorts and to stand politely while people faff about.

Usually I don't like to use any boots or bandages at all but now I am introducing canter on the lunge and the horse is learning to balance herself on the circle.
