What boots would you recommend for riding + around the yard? Looking to buy some new ones as I brought hunters at christmas but hate riding in them because it ruins them! so currently ride in jodhpurs boots which are 7 years old!

I was looking at 'country boots' which seem quite good but was wondering if anyone has a pair of boots they swear by!

I have a pair of old Hunters which are great, won't be,replacing them when they die though as the, quality has since gone down hill. I've recently got some short wood wear boots which are brilliant, nice and warm and comfy. When I ride I have a pair of mountain horse terra Novas, nice boots but really uncomfy to walk in so used just for riding.

Two pairs of hunters (for field runs and mucking out), a pair of HKM belmond boots (for general yard wear and everyday riding) and a pair of Mark Todd long boots (for competitions and clinics)

I would recommend them all except the Hunters!

Ariat Bromonts for riding, Mountain Horse stable boots for the winter and jobs like clipping, and - er - trainers the rest of the time :p (New Balance if you're interested :)) Would like some country boots but can't get round to choosing them. Love the look of Ariat Conistons.

Own far more pairs than i really need I think Imelda Marcos was my Evil Fairy Godmother:rolleyes:

Wear and Recomend Has to Be Dubarry Galway Boots my old pair are nearly 3 Years old have been worn through everthing including a peat Bog on Anglesey still fully WP and on their second set of Soles, I have just swilled them out with Nikwax Gore tex cleaner (Brown Soup) and swilled them out with re Proofer as well as looking after the leather outer properly which is the secret with these boots

Wellies Le Chameu ancient pair of neoprene hardly ever get worn now, Hunter Balmoral Bamboo Carbon sent to me free by Hunter after I kicked off with them about the quality of their NEW Original boot Stiill Comfortable but total POO.

Worst country boots Dublin River Boots but not too bad if properly cared for and they are not leather Wellingtons, Rydale Malham Boots not up to much.

And for the Worst most totaly useless alleged fully waterproof sealed to the top Country Boots Sherwood Furlong Boots AVOID THESE BOOTS LIKE THE BLACK DEATH I am discussing them with Sherwood at the present time and will be posting on them in the near future Avoid these boots at all cost you have been warned:mad:

Always Keep your Receipt look after your boots and dont be afraid to take them back and complain about the quality and the FALSE Claims made about the Boots Performance.;);)

Mountain Horse High Riders - everyday riding
Mountain Horse Supportive High Riders - everyday riding
Ariat Bromount H20's - competition riding only

Brogini Joddie Boots for yard and riding with half chaps - VERY comfy, like wearing a pair of slippers
Mountain Horse Sports Joddie Boots for yard and riding........

Hunters for yard only - and I only wear them if I'm going to a muddy field
The Muck Boot Company Yard Boots - as above

i wear my toggi calgary boots for riding and mucking out (if im not in wellies)
and for competition i wear my mums made to measure long boots that are 27 years old but are amazingly comfy and are in immaculate condition :) they were used for everything when she first got them (mucking out, paddling in muddy fields etc) and they are still going strong so she handed them down to me when she stopped riding :)

Ariat Western boots for show, Durango Flirt Western boots for everyday, Ariat mudbuster wellies for winter and a pair of Mountain Horse Richmond long boots for English events. And a pair of RM Williams for any other purpose, usually for riding safaris as they are waterproof and seamless so no rubs :)

Ariat Bromonts for most riding at home or out & about, or sometimes Toggi jodh boots with half chaps.
Winter: Ariat Brossards - the ONLY waterproof & warm boot for the winter & I occasionally ride in them too when its cold.
Also use Ariat H20 Tellurides for pottering about in in the fields or walking.

Oh - and an elderly pair of serviceable Hunter wellies for going up the fields on wet days after work if the grass is long

Happy shopping whatever you go for :)

Riding - Mountain Horse High Rider, soooo comfortable and last for ages and ages (4 years of riding most days so far).

Stable - Le Chameau Neoprene, they are expensive but last for years. Mine are now 5 years old and maybe need replacing next year, but I wear them for approx 3 or 4 hours every day except high summer for horses, dogs, garden, walking, etc, etc.

The rule of thumb is you should spend the money on the boots you wear most and ensure they have good foot/ankle support. Think of all those poor 'Ugg' generation of girls whose heels role inwards and they will have hip/knee problems for ever if they don't sort.

Cost per wear, Chameau boots are way better value!

Well, this will be cathartic......

Ariat Grassmeres - bought a year ago and only worn twice!
Ariat pro wotsit zip front jod boots with close contact chaps - worn no more that a dozen times
Ariat lace up paddock boots - worn daily and still perfect after a good 4 years with matching old style chaps
Mountain horse dressage boots with the scs sole - 3 years old and worn once!
Mountain horse zip front jod boots - worn a couple of times as they hurt to get on at the base of the zip...
Tredstep boots with gaiters - pure heaven and feel made to measure, excellent quality and still good enough for comps after 5 years or so
Ariat wellies - absolutely brill!
Woof Wear yard boots - fab but the fleecy lining has died after only 4 month which is sad as the boots are fine.
Ancient Regent traditional long boots - shiny and beloved - 20 odd years old but calves too fat this year - poo!

That feels better now |I've admitted how wasteful I am.

Riding - Mountain Horse high rider. Have them over 6 years,
Competing - The new mountain horse rider. My old pair were looking scruffy for competing so I got a new pair. Although these are not as bulky as my old pair I don't think they will take the same abuse so I will not be going into muddy fields.
Stable - Mountain Horse short boots with steel toe caps. So comfy. I have walked a number of x country courses and I went to a concert in Slane with them.

Ariat Conistons for every day wear/ride. I love the support they give around the ankle, and the fact they are smart enough to get away with if I wander into town.

Ariat Bromonts for competitions.

I couldn't mange with one pair for everything, find yard boots to chunky to ride in. I have ariat bromonts to ride in and dubarrys for on the yard - still going strong in their 6th year!

For yard work and teaching I have Dubarry Galways and a pair of Aigle wellies (which are a godsend in the winter - so warm!), both of which I love, but wouldn't ride in because I don't want to ruin them.

For riding every day I have a pair of Ariat Bromonts, and for competing and hunting I love my Broginis.

Ariat Bromonts for riding and Dubarry Galways for yard work. I have had problems with my Dubarrys though - a couple of pairs split across the top after about a year's use and another pair came apart at the sole. Having said that though, Dubarry replaced them each time. I'm on my 5th pair now and I absolutely live in them, so comfortable, totally waterproof and fit well.

There seems to be a market for used Dubarrys as well. I put an old pair on Ebay and stated that they couldn't be guaranteed to be waterproof - a person in Spain bought them (obviously being waterproof isn't important there!). I honestly didn't think they'd sell as they were very well worn but I got a good price for them :)

I love my MH Rimfrost Rider boots in winter. Waterproof, dry and comfy. In summer I just wear my HY wax leather jod boots.
