What boots would you recommend to give support for horse coming back into work?

I am bringing my mare back into work after having a year off due to injury.

Normally I would just bandage her legs but since it is getting dark so quickly now, I wanted to save a bit of time by using boots.

Their sole purpose will be for support only, she doesn't strike herself. To be perfectly honest, she is not a plod, so keeping her quiet in walk for the coming weeks is going to be tricky!

So I am sure there must be something on the market - could you recommend anything please? :)

over reach boots, and possibly front tendon or brushing boots?

Edited to say: sorry, I completely read that the wrong way. For support, and without the risk of strike, tendon boots, but I personally wouldn't use anything, as I don't think boots really give tendons much support anyway, and they can cause them to over heat which can be damaging in itself :)

Leg boots don't support anything. They just prevent strike injuries, but at the risk of overheating the tendons.

Nothing :(

My old mare did a tendon racing, had the year off, blah, blah, she rushed around the field bare legged happily enough so I never bothered with boots/bandages for exercise. She hunted and did endurance for years afterwards without boots, never a days lameness again.

I am so pleased to hear that she is coming right again for you, enjoy yourselves :D

I'm another for absolutely nothing at all due to possible overheating which will cause far more damage than a possible knock. Boots seem to give you added immunity thoughts too "it's alright, she's got boots on" rather than not even thinking of doing something silly because she doesn't have boots if that makes sense at all.

Just take her very slowly with at least three month of walking before you think of anything else; your hills down there will be superb for building her up naturally oh and walk her through any river as much as possible providing the bottom is good, nothing better than working water (river or sea rather than a pond) for tendons.

So glad she's back for you, have fun rambling you lucky devil!

As everyone else has said no boot or bandage can support tendons, if you do want to use some the aircooled ones from Premier Equine are lightweight, quick to put on,just 3 straps of velcro and they do help keep the legs cool.

Thank you for all your very sensible replies :D

She is feeling so blooming full of herself that keeping her in walk is going to be the tricky bit ;)

I am going to ask the farrier to put extra heavy shoes on - just to try and weigh her down a bit ;) :D

I think you should probably go for concrete shoes. If that isn't enough then you could hobble her too, perhaps? Can I watch? :)

You can borrow my black and white jobby for one leg if you want? ;)

When I brought Doll back into work after 9 months off with her injury, I ummed and ahhed about boots but decided against. I walked her for I think the first 6 weeks which was interesting at first, especially as it was the middle of Feb and the winter makes her livelier than normal, then slowly started introducing a bit of trot. She got away with absolute murder as every time she napped I was paranoid about her injuring herself again and would turn around.

LMAO at you lot

Obviously you thought I was joking about the heavy shoes then :p

I had thought about tying a few concrete blocks to her tail -although we live on steep ground and they may overtake her on the way home

Tie her to the top using a bungee rope?
