I am useless at guessing horse breeds, but the fact that you pose the question puts me in mind of an exchange I overheard at a show a few years ago:

Person 1: Hmmm, that grey cob moves very nicely, not like a typical cob at all!
Person 2: That cob is a Lipizzaner.
Person 1: Oh.

Person 1 was a fairly well known judge.

I think she looks like a highland. Maybe a cross, but actually looks like the pure bred I learned to ride on years ago. She looks lovely.

Normally I'd have said ISH but, as you've suggested it's a bit trickier, I'd say a Spanish of some sort, crossed with something a bit heavier to give those lovely big feet.

so interesting to hear what people think, thanks for playing along.

she is indeed the older of the 2 mares i mentioned in my other thread, a pure bred, 14.1hh registered highland! She has SI so her mane is short and it seems to be her face that is worst affected as you can see by the patches she has. she is such a fab lady though. I am considering clipping her feathers off to match the lack of mane to see how it looks !!

I thought highland but I couldn't decide if that's because you said it and I remembered or because that's what I thought lol so I said nuffink.

I'm totally rubbish at this. I thought she looked like an Irish draught crossed with a connie. She looks about 15.2hh+ in the pic OP but of course I have absolutely nothing to judge this by. How big is she NeverEver? :)

The main reason she doesn't look like a highland? She's not obese @rolleyes3:

Her face isn't very highlandy but the back end looks to be.

I would never have guessed highland! Her face especially doesn't seem like a highland to me, and I thought she was much bigger - at least 15'2 upwards!! Do you have any more photos of her?

She's lovely OP :)

I only thought Highland because I grew up with them and she looks mainly like how they look. But I couldn't decide of she had something else like connie or something.

she does look bigger and she isnt particularly wide either, Im 5ft4 so average, not especially teeny. She isn’t obese no but she is also a much lighter stamp, i usually get asked if she is a connie x lol, she is a star though :)

As with all breeds, there are types. My daemon isn't very highlandy (more so now he's mature, but he's not remotely like your little one), but Fergus is very text book highland. DryRot's highlands are lighter riding types, not remotely like the show ring variety, or the deer stalking type.
