I would have also said ID but beyond that I dont know either sorry

he is nice though and has a lovely eye

ISH is not a breed, it is a type traditionally covering ID x TB or basically anything that comes out of Ireland that isn't ID or Connie... pet hate is everyone deciding their horse's unknown breeding is in fact ISH. To be elegible for anything bigger than local your horse is only ISH if it has a green ISH passport, which I think has to go back two generations. I would say he is closer to a cob type than an ISH type.

He might be dutch or french or swedish too. I remember seeing a utube video of about 30 horses being rescued/swum from flood waters in the Netherland and there were quite a few in there of his build/type.

How tall is he?

Mine looks similar to yours. Mine is a 19 year old 16.1 coloured athletic good-doer of unknown breeding. He has the silky mane/tail of a TB or warmblood, a short dense winter coat and a short sleek summer coat (but not as sleek as a warmblood coat), he has the knees/hocks/unflappable temperament/colour/good-doer of a cob, the stubborness/paces/late maturity (7) of a warmblood, the hooves of a cob, the heel feather of a cob, and when he was younger he had the turbo-acceleration into gallop of a TB too. So mine's cob/warmblood/(possible touch of TB).

Suechoccy that is interesting ! He's 4 years old . He's come over from Ireland . Fantastic temperament but very athletic . He's got a lovely coat on him at the moment . He was sold to me as just 'Irish'

Completely right about the silky mane it's really silky and so is his tail , nothing cob like about it at all ... How interesting

Cob x Halfbred is my vote. He has a lot of bone and feather for and ID X TB with 1/4 cob but I could very well be wrong!
He has a bit of quality about him but is quite substantial, so my money's on 14-142hh cob dam, halfbred/ISH stallion. They're common enough over here.

I would say cob crossed with something light like tb crossed with some sort of pony.
Given he is quite small I cant imagine the other side would be IDxTB!

another vote for cob x half bred here. if he came over from ireland and was a proper section b even ish, he'd have a blue book

Pony sized cob mare x halfbred = 15.2 or there abouts :) (well anything from 14hh to 16.1hh depending on what genes express themselves or not!)

This is rather interesting . Well he's only just 4 so possibly he will make 16hh ? He's 15.2hh at the mo

Without knowing his breeding who knows! He could finish 16h, but he could stay where he is depending on how much cob has expressed itself within ;) If the halfbred side is strong in him he could stretch untill he is up to 6. Looking at his head and body I would say the cob side is stronger. He might go another inch but I would be very surprised if he put up another hand. But who knows!

oh and Paddi22 is spot on. The blue book doesn't exist anymore they're all green now, so will be harder for non ISH people to tell. Came in last year I think so the green book guarantee will be no more! Although I know a good few breeders who if it's an mare with no recorded breeding don't bother with dna-ing and just get a white book so he could have breeding just not recorded.

Op did he have a white ISH passport? The breeder will be listed on it so you could find out his parentage that way.

Can't remember what passport he had ! It's at the yard as they have to hold into them In the office.,Passport wasn't particularly well filled out I must say

True that but to me I just cant see the ID!
Its a bit ridiculous that no one has recorded his breeding given he is 4 and passports are mandatory now, such a pity as its great to know the breeding.

My old horse has no breeding recorded either unfortunately and Im here in Ireland and he just has a blue book.

And I was thinking if the stallion is a TBxID, then it would be likely enough he would be recorded which makes me think even more that he is a mixture of all sorts!

Well as you know he has come over from ireland and they are really rather well known for their coloured cobs I somewhat doubt he has anything much more exotic in him!

Sorry, I suppose he cannot be called an ISH if he doesn't have the passport, but like you say it is a type not a breed, and I would say he looks like ISH type. Having found out his height though he does just look like a lightweight cob, he looked taller at first :-)

I would say yours is an irish cob, I doubt there's anything more fancy in there. Most irish cobs have more irish draft in than your average gypsy cob in england which tend to have more native blood
