What breed is your horse, and does it conform to the stereotype?

So, we all know that TB's are highly strung wimps and section D's are too clever for their own good, but what are your horses and do they conform to the stereotype of their breed?

I have a Fell gelding who is rather stubborn, give him an inch and he will take a mile but is loving and adorable.

I also have a welsh B filly, she is the most placid and easygoing pony I have ever met, loves her cuddles, is very affectionate but pulls some amazingly mean faces at people she doesn't know!

What about yours?
 
Shetland - delightful, brave, cheeky, reliable.
TB - intelligent, sensitive, brave could get lit up.
WB - nappy, backward thinking, thick.

You do the math.
 
I have a TBXISH

She is very brave, loyal, bombroof, forward but not silly, honest and tries her hardest to please.
 
3 tbs, my 4 yo is super sensible and laid back, the 2 older ones are quite sharp and spooky but all are hardy and good doers and don't need loads of rugs and feed.
 
Mine is an Irish Cob...not 100% sure what the stereotype is for them, I'm guessing 'safe, quiet, bombproof?????'


If so then he most definately isn't to type!!! He spooks literally every 5 minutes,naps like a nutter, bogs off, LOVES to gallop, doesn't 'do' plod, loves to jump, is Mr Independant, doesn't do cuddles and in general is a bit of a s*d! But I loves him to the ends of the earth!!
 
ID x , renowned for their wonderful temp and I have to say that Paddy is true to type , very loving nature , good jumper and generally older than his years , and although a reg ISH ( so there is some TB in there somewhere ) He definitely errs on the irish side..
 
TB- good doer, friendly on the ground, sharp, requires large amounts of confidence boosting...sore throat for me, very quick learner
TBxID- soft, cuddly, clever, brave, trusting
 
Of my 3 TB's only one would kind of fit the sterotype. The other two are absolute gems who try their hardest, the other one is just stubborn lol!

My Dartmoor - I call him the bronco pony as he is cold backed, he is lazy, cheeky and very very pretty though.

My Welsh D - he is a 2yo colt and is generally quite quiet and easy going, at shows he is a donkey until he gets in the ring then he is a Welsh Cob in every respect! Back out of the ring and he is settled down again within 2 mins - the best way to be! He is very clever, again slightly cheeky but also loves his cuddles and pampering.

My Fell pony - he was the best pony I ever had, he is out on loan now as I no longer had a job for him to do. I got him as a freshly broken 4yo and he is bombproof, forward going, slightly strong, very very lovable and easy going and generally couldn't give a monkeys about anything that goes on around him.

Of my shetlands they all have "Typical Shetland" traits. Flint won't be caught without a rigmoral, you also can't touch his ears. He is a great ridden pony and he loves to go fast. He isn't a little kids pony more of a small teenagers ride.
Rain's nips - coutesy of the kid that comes to ride him always feeding him - grr! And he also lays down for the farrier. He roles when on a surface - rider on or not - he has sweetitch but otherwise is a racking pony who goes anywhere and does anything.
The rest of the shetlands have thier quirks, 2 others have sweetitch, one had bad lammi in the past but we have sorted her now she is home, one has EMS so she lives with the lammi mare. 2 don't load very well and the last one is an absolute tart and an escape artist! If you rolled all that into one pony it would be enough to drive you insane but the shetland sterotype is spread over 9 of them so it's not too bad lol!
 
Hmmm good question.

WB/IDx (was told but not on paper) So I can't really be certain if his character conforms to the breed characteristics or his individual breeding.

He's very intelligent and has a strong character, nothing like the DWB I used to ride, complete opposites in fact, he does however have a stubbon streak not sure if that's a bit of Irish Draft?, certainly no 'Irish Daft' in him that's for sure, if anything he reminds me of a Welsh, big heart, cheeky, intelligent, their way of the high way, he's a big softy really but doesn't like to show it too often (knock his pride you see) *grins*

So I duno really. :confused:
 
my TB, definately not.
He was out all of last winter, through the snow and rain with his rug as happy as could be. My friend's TB is the typical stereotype. He needs to be indoors at night and wrapped in cotton wool or he will constantly lame himself. Luckily, mine is the complete opposite and I have yet to have a problem with him... *touch wood* :)
 
Charisma is pure tb - spooky, a worrier but very sweet and genuine. She is not loopy :p

Is prone to losing weight if not carefully managed and doesn't have the greatest feet!

Not the fastest! :O But I think that has to do with her gigonormous belly

I've got a good mix, will let you decide if they are stereotypes or not....

Cob - Bombproof, bolshy, brave, would sell her soul for a handful of feed, an armchair ride
Haflinger - Sweet, bit of a wuss, bolshy, lazy!
TB - Laid back, not so brave, sensitive, fast!
Anglo Arab - A REAL wuss, bit of a ladies man, softie at heart, soooo comfortable to ride
Arab - Airhead, terrified of being left out, greedy, speedy, great trail horse (although can do very impressive spooks!) will go ANYWHERE you ask (and even places you don't!) and never tires
ISH - Relaxed, easy going, super sweet, always tries her hardest to please
ID - Bossy, forward going, brave
Shetland -Little beggar, impossible to catch, can't be trusted off the lead rein, but just gorgeous so is forgiven
Welsh x - Jumps like stink, super speedy, brave, sensitive, very lovable

Yep, my WB is like that! Thinks the world revolves around him and that we are mainly the maid service! But he is very intelligent, so not what most people think of as a WB.

Ardennes- not at all what people think she'll be like. Bombproof but not really a plod, has nice active paces and is a very comfortable ride.

ISH- can be very smart at times but also act as if there is nothing in his head :)
massive jump but no style at all haha, accident prone, awful trot, still hasnt grown up even though hes 10 years old :), 17.2hh but thinks hes alot bigger untill he sees a jack russle, knows his size and throws it around when being lead :)

tb x trotter- cheekey, really doesnt look good trotting or cantering or should we call it throwing the legs in all directions :P thinks shes boss but really isnt :)
 
TBxConnie certainly lives up to the stereotype. An absolute sweetie temperament wise, one of the gentlest kindest horses I know. To ride a complete a nightmare tough! So temperamental, not bothered by the scary things but unpredictable when it comes to everything else.
 
Dutch Warmblood - best of the best in his breeding. Laid back, calm and casual. But does have a cheeky side to him ;) far from a stereotypical Warmblood to ride but has kept all the talent. Simply the best! :)

I've got an Irish TB too, they sound very alike :D (except I couldn't describe our Tommy as 'brave' as he does look at everything if he is infront, following he is perfect)
 
tb- excellent doer (verges on fat!), great feet, very thick mane and tail, very sound.
She is sharp to ride though but excellent on the flat and always wins at dressage.
Not typical in terms of hardiness but pretty typical to ride.

tb x id- prone to being lean, moves better than 95% of warmbloods, can be sharp but in a nice way and very forward going.
Not a typical tb/id in anyway shape or form.
