I always wanted a Hungarian Vizsla which is what I got - I'm onto my second one now, but I also have an English Pointer which wasn't a breed I'd ever planned on but she was a rescue and I have to say she's turned into a very sweet dog. I had had a hankering for a German Short-Haired Pointer at one point which I think are more like the Vizsla in temperament - but the English ones are completely different.
I had no choice in the matter, not that it bothers me...born and reared with GSDs.
I also have a hankering for lurchers, EBT, Afghan Hounds and Komondor, but have no intention of owning them, particularly the last two, seems like far too much hard work!
Ditto H-H, born and reared with GSDs. Will always be my favourite. I like lots of other breeds, have owned and loved whippets, l/c chihuahuas, JRs and Lancashire heelers (the latter 2 are hard work!). If I ever get too old and feeble for a GSD I have always said I would give a greyhound a home, and we could sit by the fire together.
I always wanted a Border Collie - my first two dogs were Border Collies, I have also had a Lab x Collie, a Golden Retriever, two Dobermans and now my daughter has a Border Collie - all very different but all lovely characters.
I always admired weimaraners, after my brother had one when i was a younger.
And i eventually got my first one just over 4 years ago!
And now i breed them!
Border Collie and Border Collie!
First dog was a BC
Second was a BC
3rd we got off my grandad when he went into a home- staffy x! Was a lovely little thing! wouldnt mind another staffy!! He was so socialable
! ! And loving!
4th BC
Got to carry on the tradition! Wouldnt be without her now!! Its the best wre we are because she runs around for days with her wanger and we never have to worry about her getting tired, and then she sleeps forever after when we get home
! ! Honestly its great!!!!!! She has about 4 walks aday and is stil mental so perhaps not a dog for some
In a way i think its a shame she isnt a working dog, she has so much energy and she learns so quick (like most BC) she would have been fab! But she loves her life going on walks here, there and everywhere so im not sure really!
Never wanted dogs - could never understand the attraction.
Got our 1st dog 2 years ago - Kelpie x Ridgeback then waited another year and got a rottie x ridgeback. Wanted to have either a boxer, bull arab or rottie.
They have all stolen my heart and soul - I would, and frequently do, do anything for them !!!
Ended up with a rescued rottie about 2 months ago so now have 3 big dogs and two cats - one of which is deaf as a post and white as snow most of the time.
I think I was about 5...as mam used to show and do obedience at high level.
I always wanted a shelti
and ended up with a border colli as my first dog, did obedience with her she was a fab little dog.
Since then...wel dont think there has been a breed I have not had being involved in rescue...I do love shepherd's and whippets though.
I've wanted a Saluki for yonks. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I ended up with a dog far better suited to city living, and you all know who she is, and how much I dote on her
Will never be without a BT now--they're the friendliest, funniest breed I've ever encountered.
I always wanted a wirehaired fox terrier, i got a patterdale who is out of a black pat bitch x black pat dog, but gran mother on bitch side was a 1/4 jrt so she is a throwback!! she did look funny as she was white and all her littermates were either black or red!!
I wanted a JRT and/or a Wheaten (irish one of course)
I was raised with working collies and I loved the things to bits!
About 10 years of pleading I'm now the owner of a Wheaten..
Now contemplating what to get when I leave home which will be something small ish like a JRT, Westie or Scottie!
We have a weimaraner and she is the best dog i could of wished for. She is 12 yrs old and has a bit of athritus in her back legs. I also grew up with a poodle and she was a great pooch but wouldn't swap my dog for anything.
I would love a newfoundland! Or possibly a bernese mountain dog! My mum used to have a saint bernard when she was younger so maybe that's where my love for big dogs come from! But I have two guinea pigs at the moment and would have to wait until I have a nice big garden before I could get myself a dog!
Grew up with a Staff x Lab x ??, German Wirehaired Pointers and Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas. I've got 3 Jack Russells now and 2 HWV and I'd love another GWP but can't see it happening for a very long time. I have 2 in partnership with my auntie but it's not quite the same because they live with her.
