What breed of dog?

My friend is looking for a dog (ideally a pup but wouldn't mind a dog up to 2 yrs. it will be the family's first dog and wants to know what breeds she should look at.

In the house there's her, her OH, her 23 yr old son, 21 yr old daughter & 15 yr old son. It will be mainly be her and the daughter taking care of the dog but obviously all the family will get involved.

Her OH had dogs when he was younger and her daughter works at a kennels.

They want something that's a medium size, not too hard to train, that needs up to 1 & 1/2 hours exercise a day.

Was just about to suggest that. We've just got our first Staffie x and he's freaking awesome. Wouldn't hesitate to take on a full Staff as our next dog. I know a wonderful rescue in Essex that has some young dogs that aren't 'damaged' in any way and are looking for good homes.

Essex Sint too far from them. What's the name of the rescue?
